Default Has this happend to you?

I have a 90 SI hatch with a b16 and y1 tranny with LSD. On the dyno it makes 156hp at the wheels, with a06 ft.lbs torque. One day i was driving and i noticed my exhaust was loud, so i checked my mounts and found that my trans. mount had a lot of movement (by the way i have Hasport mounts). So i started to take the mount off, on the trany side, as i was taking the mount off the reciever on the chassis fell off. I broke the spot welds off . What i whant to know is has any one ever broke one of these off before and what mounts were you using?

i think he meant that his mount is ok, but the part of the engine bay that it bolts through has broken the welds, so is no longer attached to the engine bay

i broke mine and rewelding it never made it any better. it would break as soon as i let out on the clutch so i built this plate. it is 1/4 inch thick and is colted on both sides of the mount location. it has held up for over two years now. here are a couple pics of it. hope it will give you an idea of what needs to be done.

i did it with a stock b16. now i have an ls/vtec and it is putting alot of force on my mount and it hasnt budged or shown any sign of cracking in two years of abuse. plus i can unbolt it from my frame and the motor comes out alot easier. i have done it about three times now.

This is why bolting a mount on is better. People who dont know how to set a welder will actually make the weld weaker by not setting it properly if you want it strong go to a professional welder or bolt the bitch on.

As for that alluminum mount that is so cheesy you have so thick of metal where you dont need it and you have thin metal were you need it

Lay off of him. He did not break the motor mount, he broke the spot where the motor mount mounts onto. He has now had it re-welded and no it is not a rust bucket.

**** that sucks man, i hope it doesn't happen to me, I'm planning on 215whp. Yeah you can build a plate like that guy up there, which i did on my 87 civic, it worked fine. I believe the SiR actually had slightly reinforced frame engine mounts, and now we see why. Good luck.

I just noticed a crack on my car in this exact area. Is there any where I can purchase a bracket?
