Default How to stop the burn??

My car is burning and leaking oil......i think its just the valve gasket, but to get it to stop burning, what do i do, it only burns a lot at revs over 5500, but i don't want it to burn at all. Change the head gasket? is that the culprit? is there a way to test, i would swap the engine, but i don't have that kinda coin. Anyone know where i could find a F22B1 Vtec for a decent price? that might be a feasible swap. Or could i fix the burning for cheaper?

There are only 2 ways for oil to get into the cylinders- piston rings and valve stem seals. Unless your car has a lot of miles on it then I'd bet on the valve seals. Hteyre only a buck a piece and you can replace them yourself (but I wouldn't call it a fun job)

i really doubt its a gasket

your piston rings are probably worn, how many miles are on it? what were your compression test results?

There are a couple things that I can think off. If it is your head gasket you will have oil in your radiator.. If that is not the case then it may be the seals the the others mentioned about.. A little more info on your ride would help us out.. - miles- mods.. thanks

Look by the harmonic balancer. If that has wet oil behind it then you need to look into a lower end gasket kit. I can tell you a supper place to get OEM gaskets for a really good price.

I have a F22A4 motor and got my lower kit for only $43 (gaskets in kit/ oil pan, water pump, oil pump, oil pickup, and all the seals front main, oil seal, balancer shaft.) it is a full gasket kit to rebuild your lower end minus the rod/main/thrust bearing.

there is also the oil sending unit that leaks on these along with the valve cover. So there are too many places besides the head and rings where the oil can go out.

If you are only burning oil at 5500 rpm's then good chance that your rings are gone. And then you are looing at a re-ring kit. That is anywhere from $120 to $460 pending on parts you want with. It can go as high as $4500. But that is a master rebuild kit with head/cam/crank/pistons/balancer shaft all high perform. top of the line.

From what i can tell, and i'm no expert. Leaking oil from valve cover gasket, the white/bluish smoke only comes out the back a 5500 Rpm's, 170,000 Km's (No mods) all stock....thus far.... what does the harmonic balancer look like?.........................so can i just buy a F22B1, the vtec one, swap it in, and be done with it? anyone know where to find one? cuz i've been looking. this motor sounds/feels like its done.... maybe i should just h22 it. any ideas?

if youve got white smoke it sounds like you could be burning antifreeze...

If you think the engine is cooked then maybe your best bet to search the bone yards or look for a rebuilt motor of your liking.

also depends on if you think this whip is worthy of a new power plant.

good luck
