I change every oil change. I use whatever the place uses that changes my oil. (I get 5.00 oil changes, penzoil, and not sure about the filter. I think it's nappa or something like that)

change filter everytime you change the oil.

i use filters manufactured by Wix. the Napa Gold filters are made by them, not sure who else's are.

btw.......penzoil is junk. it's a wax based oil and doesn't work for ****. technicians at the mazda dealer i worked to insisted on switching away from it.

umm I thought the oil itself could go for longer intervals than the filter... for instance a certain oil might be good for 10K miles, but the filter might get clogged up after 5K miles and just send the oil through the by-pass instead of filtering it. Of course at this point you would need to change both the oil and filter because the oil has gotten very dirty (since the filter is no longer filtering the oil), but if you change the filter before 5K then you could go 10K before changing the oil.

That's just what I understand from reading, though. I personally use Valvoline MaxLife 10w30 and STP filters changed every 3K.
