Default Wanting to GReddy Kit My Automatic Teg - Few ???

Ok, I love turbo's! I love them much! I particularly do not like driving 5 speeds, im just the automatic type of guy. Now, this car is my daily driver, & I usually never take it past 3k RPM.

Anyway, cut to the chase, my car has 106,500 miles on it, pretty much stock engine, just a short ram intake & I got a cool muffler, thats it. Anyhow, if I was to throw on a GReddy kit, I would like to run at like 6 psi boost, which is fine, but remember this is my daily driver & I want everything to hold up, INCLUDING MY TRANSMISSION. I have heard that automatics tranny's will start slipping, but I heard that they do under HIGH boost, & not very low boost like I am doing. What do you guys think? Should I also get a shift kit? HOw much do they run, where can I get one & are they good for the transmission. Like I said tho, I usually never take the car past 3k RPM, but every now & then, I will want too b/c of the turbo, but I wont ever take it past 6k RPM, that is for sure. How will the transmission hold up like this? This car MUST hold up for another 3 years or so lol. Thank you & your responses are really appreciated.

P.S. I called GReddy & talked to 2 people & they do not have any answers for me. HELP!!!!!!!!!

dont go past 3k?? then dont go turbo. You wont be able to spool up the turbo under driving like that.

I'd say look into a jackson racing supercharger or a vortec supercharger. Both will make more useable low end power than a turbo will unless you go extreme with a ball bearing unit or something like that.

hell, why not just toss a 50 wet shot of nitrous on it and call it a day? you'll probably only hit the juice once or twice a month if this is just a commuter car anyway.

b/c i love turbo's & I do go past 3k RPM when I feel "mojo" but when im just driving to work, i never go past 3k... but when i roll up to the streets on a Friday night, i guarentee you, I'll be taking it to 5 a few times, but not many ... but this is about my tranny, not my engine.

P.S. I love "show" too, thats basically what I am. No one around here has a turbo Integra & I just wanna show it off.

I agree with stackz you should just go with a Supercharger....If you're going to be driving this everyday you'd have to do the turbo right so you don't get stuck with out a car for going on 4 months like me ...especially in you case where your motor has 100k plus miles....A super charger, i think, would be a little more conservatve and cheaper if you only plan to run fairly low boost, and don't plan on going higher.

P.S. they can be flashy too...especially equipped with a nice FMIC...IMO of course

I talked to a few mechanicx & they said a s/c would be worse than a turbo b/c ur power is always there & with a turbo, your not always spooling up.. But Im talking a GReddy kit anyhow, its made for my car w/o any modifications & its good for the car. Besides, im not trying to be rude, but I dont want a s/c, I want a turbo.

Wife has an '00 Integra LS auto. Had my friend's shop do a custom turbo setup for it with a T3. Only running 5 psi because it is her daily driver, 179 whp, which is enough for her since she just wanted a little more passing power.

Tranny is stock except for a tranny cooler. Under full boost, it does slip slightly, not bad, but a little on shifts. We don't plan to run much more boost than this, so I'm not too worried about the tranny.

During normal driving, no it doesn't slip. Only under full boost.

I ran a turbo auto for a bit, it held up real good, just get a automatic tranny cooler, it wasn't super fast, but it wasn't slow, i smoked alot of cars with the auto turbo, boy does it make people mad.

Brake Torque Launch @ 5k fucken kills off the line, becuase u can spool 9 psi and launch like that, killed so many people off the line, but the auto shifts are slower, and the redline is very low, im runing a 5 speed now and it's alot faster.

u can get ur simple greddy kit, do intercooler and bov, and just run off the stock wastegate without a boost controler, 2 step colder plugs, and a oil cooler and auto cooler, i would also put ur fan on a relay so it's always on with ign, so ur car dosn't overheat, with that many miles u might blow up your headgasket.

Should be good if ur auto tranny is still holding up, but for how long not sure, with 100k on a auto, a rebuild might be coming soon, it would be cheaper to just swap in a 5 speed. Can u even drive stick?

Supercharge it.. It fits EVERYTHING you want much more..

You have NO idea how much easier, worry free and fitting to what you want..

Go SC.. They are cheaper as well.

lol there won't be much "mojo" feeling with an auto...

If you were truly serious and wanted a car that would move you would get a stick. but by the way you said you were an auto type of guy I get the impression you don't know how to drive stick and are afraid to learn or somin.

Yea, I learned how to drive a stick back in May by test driving about 15 or 20 standards. I can drive them but when I get on a busy street I freeze up & get all nervous. My palms get sweaty etc & I just dont like it & not being able to focus on the road. Thats why i like auto's.

Also, when I bought my teg, it had a blown head gasket that i didnt know about & I got cheated hardcore...had to pay $1010.86 the first day i had the car to get it replaced, fortunatley, all work was done by Acura & I have a warranty on my head gasket So if it does blow, im good. As for my tranny, it seems to shift real good i'd say. Are shift kits any good? Are they good for your transmission? HOw much are they & where can I pick one up? thank you!

Sorry, I just laughed out loud when I read that! I can picture an elderly woman behind the wheel..."yea, I usually keep it under 3k rpms, but when I'm really in a hurry to my bingo nights, I take her up to 3.125k rpms! This baby rocks!"

You have a Honda. Redline is a little above 7k rpms. USE IT! And I agree, a JRSC would fit the bill. It's constant, yes...but it's not like you're hitting 8psi @ 1k rpms! It climbs with rpms as well. BUT, the powerband would be more linear and STREETABLE. A turbo @ low boost + automatic wouldn't be that much fun until at least 6-8psi and 4-7k rpms.

After awhile, it'll be like second nature. I taught my MOM how to drive stick after a day. It was a beater little car, but it got better mpg than her van that she used to drive to work.

Whoa, $1k for a friggin head gasket. You do know it's only a $75-100 part? LOL! But for auto, torque converters can get expensive. I don't know about any shift kits for Honda's?

lmao

Yea, I do take it over 3 grand but the reason I really dont is b/c it takes much gas, I can floor my car & actually see the need move two or three dots within a minute - I dont get paid for another week & im below half a tank so I must CONSERVE!!! But yea, I do take it past 4,000 but what im saying is, I dont do it constantly all the time. heh

Finest - the car had a blown head gasket for so long it warped the head, so the head was machined. That is why it was so much

Would it be easy to install onto my RS? I have a B18B1 engine... could i easily just put a B18C1 head on it? or even a B18C5?

What about converting my car into VTEC...would that cost much?

You can't just pop on a b18c head. That would be converting it to vtec. Again you won't feel the benefits because its auto. See I was almost in your situation. My dad was teaching me to drive stick and I was getting so frustrated (it was my first day trying) I almost said **** this I'll just by auto. Thank god I didn't, I would have regretted it the rest of my life. Once you learn to drive stick, it becomes 2nd nature and you will be paying more attention to the road. With an auto it does all of the work for you so its easier to get distracted, but with stick you have to pay attention to your engine sounds and/or rpms and then do the gear changing yourself.

Also you do not need to drive like a granny to conserve fuel. (also another benefit iof stick is better mpg). I drive my car hard almost everyday and I still get 20-23 mpg all city driving.

If you enjoy driving now, you'll fall in love with it once you start driving stick. I'll never go back to auto. I've been driving it for over a year now.
