Default Anyone running LS tranny on B16a?

My Y1 tranny is grinding a bit but more so, I use my civic for a commuter car approximately 80 miles on the highway per day and the high rpm cruising speed is killing my ears and gas mileage. My average speed is usually between 70-80mph.

Just wondering if people that are ACTUALLY running a LS tranny on their B16a can provide any comments. Overall power is secondary at this point since this is my commuter car and I have other toys for power. I will gladly sacrifice SOME power but there has to be just enough to pass idiots on the highway sometimes.

I know some people are replacing 5th gear from a LS but I don't want to hassle with this. Also, GSR tranny is out of the question since they are either rare or expensive.

Would an LS tranny be worthwile?

when you say it's "good", do you mean it has a good balance of performance and economy, or mainly good in the sense of economy with little to no performance.

I realize "performance" is subjective so what I'm trying to say is can your buddy hang with Sentra-SER, RSX, etc. with the LS setup?

Thanks.

it is hard to get a good balance with performance and economy, the two are not to be used in the same sentence often. If your looking for an all round tranny most would recomend a gsr tranny, its not too short geared like the type r or si tranny. You could possibly take one of these tranny's and put a higher final drive gear and lsd in them and make it a more economical tranny for highway driving. As far as stock trannys go the ls will get the the most econimcal highway gas milage, but you will sacrifice performance. IMO the ls tranny is worth it if you get a good deal but around herr the are generally only 200 bucks more expesive than a gsr
