Default Auto into 5 speed?

I have a 96 Civic hatch that's Auto..... is it going to be a pain in the *** to swap B18c or h22a ect..... I know I'll have to replace the center console and tach. Anything else special?

sell ur car and buy one with a manual tranny, u will need an entire pedal assembly, with the master cylinder, etc. not sure whatelse...why will u have to changethe center console?? and u dont have to have a tach, but if if u buy a c1 swap, just buy an Si cluster, with an 8200 redline

I forgot about the clutch. Is that going to involve anything major? Like cutting a big a$$ hole.

in my opinion, converting from auto to manual isnt worth it, especially if u are new, u probably wont be able to do it urself, just buy a manual car, but just my .02 cents

Well, I don't want to sell it I just bought it + its silver! and the body isn't like all fucked up like all the other hatches I've looked at. I've been looking for 2 months and this one had the nicest paint body and didn't look like someone had been chucking rocks at it for 5 years like all the other ones.

stock hatches in good condition are hard to come by. you can do it, but it will take time and money. but i understand where your coming from.

go to a local shop, and ask them about converting it, if u are new, i can almost gurantee that u wont have the knowledge to do it, have u ever worked on a handa before, like swap an engine or anything like that??

The most I've ever done was put a super charger on my 99 hatch.... I sold it thinking I was going over sea's b/c im in the Army but now I wish I didn't sell it.

I swear its imposable to find a hatch that's not all dented up and after 2 months of examining at least 100 cars all over the US I found one!!!!!!! and now everyone is saying I should just sell it and get one with stick!!!! That can't be..... if it wasn't hard enough to find a hatch at all much less one in mint. Now you guys are saying just get rid of it b/c of a peddle swap?

It's definitely possible - and affordable if you can get some of your parts salvage and not buy everything new. Time wise it's definitely cheaper to go out and buy a new car, but if you bleed oil, auto to manual can be worth every penny. Goodluck

I was figuring it would just take a little time but I would end up doing the switch when I did an engine swap. I'm still a few months out from that anyhow.

its really not all that hard to do, just its a lot of work. you need a new pedal assembly, clutch master cylinder, cut a hole in the firewall for said master cylinder, manual tranny and clutch line/cable. also you would need a new ecu and axles.

i had 5 posts when I did my auto-manual conversion parts list: tranny, flywheel, clutch, clutch lines, slave cylinder+master, 5 speed starter, pedals, linkage with shifter, 5 speed ecu, auto-manual tranny mount. I think thats it. In your case you need the proper axles

It's not hard at all. I did one a couple years ago. My recommendation is go to a junk yard that has a Civic with a 5 speed the same year as yours. Pull all the stuff out you need and you're on your way. I repinned my automatic harness with all the wiring I needed from the ignition switch to the engine harness. That way I had no splices. The only thing that I had to splice was the back-up lights cause they were in a completely different spot than the 5 speed model. If you are doing a swap anyway, you'll be getting most the expensive parts with it.

Grab a Helm's and go at it. Especially if you've found a hatch you really like.

Brad

PS The reason I say same year is because Honda changed some of their connections at the interior fuse box throughout the years. You should be fine sticking with a 96-98 Civic 5 speed harness. Other years may work... but why guess?
