Default Question about dead spot in engine..

Basicly what is happening is from around 1800-2700 the engine spits and kinda sputters. It is drivable but makes for a shaky ride at low rpms. My next attempt will be to change the plugs and wires. The car is a 1992 prelude Si with a H22A4. Another problem i noticed in the last week was when i come to a stop or push in the clutch my car will drop to about 500rpm then go up to 1500 then reapet that just when idling. I think this may be a air bypass valve or a egr valve maybe. If anyone has any sugestions for this "Dead spot" it would be greatly appreciated

For the bad idle, look at https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1022237

it couldn't hurt to change the plugs and wires. see if that helps any. you don't have an aftermarket ecu or chip do you?

i just bought the car and i do believe it has a aftermarket chip and i know the ecu was replaced but i think its stock. I believe there isn't a chip because there isn't a rev limeter past 8k

well if there isn't a rev limiter, then there most likely is a chip. (the obd1 computers have rev limiters, right?) You could possibly have a problem with your ecu, or have a bad chip or something, which would make your car run stupid like you were explaining. i'm not saying there is something wrong with it, i'm just saying that it's a possibility. see if you can contact the person who previously owned the car and ask if they had any trouble with it.

apparently the last owner brought it to honda and there was nothing they could do about the bouncy idle, but there wasn't a dead spot at the time. right now i have accell 9.3mm wires i think that might be a little big but maybe it makes no difference

na, i don't think the wires are gonna hurt you any. try changing the plugs at least and make sure that the plugs are on tight. that may solve your problem.
