Not sure on why switching to OBD1, i did want to run a test pipe without throwin a code, adn they owner was talkin to me about something, i think it was so he could reflash the ecu and tune it porperly without having to use a afc/vafc.

Do you have to pull the engine to install the cams? the cam gears/springs/retainers would be posible i think, but i don't know if i have the knowledge to dissasemble the top end, i would love to but i am kinda weiry about goin internal cause i never have.

i guess if i did install it all i could just pay them to tune it for me and that is all i would need them for, and i might can find better parts for the $$ elsewhere too!

i cant remember if buddy club is the messed up company that rates their cams backwards or not. because stage4 cams would be way too much without some serious raise in compression. and i have a hard time seein 200hp out of this set up.

thats true.. if you dont have the compression.. to run stage 4 cams.. i dont see 200 either.. i think the recommened C/R is anywhere from 10:5 - 13:5? for the stage 2 or higher
im not sure? but if you have high compression then yeah i can see 200whp

well the guy mentioned stage 3 and stage 4, would the stage 3's be ok with this mild of compression?

what are some other brands that make good power and would run good with my proposed setup?

you should run toda cams . You get way more torque and thats what a b16 needs is torque . power curve will start around 3k and pull all the way to redline. topend power is good but lowend and midrange is best for street driving. Obd1 to tune your car is better. obd2 is not to tuner friendly it will throw a code for almost everything you do to it. With that setup look to gain around 180hp.

cams will net you around 10-20 hp alone. but without higher compression then 10.4 which is what you will have with that headgasket alone. You won't gain much. but run toda and you really won't have to raise compression so high to gain alot of power in the midrange . Of course the more you raise compression the more power. This is what I would reccomend/

1. pistons 450.00 for like endyne to raise compression to around 10.9
2.Toda cams 850.00
3.bore your stock throttle body out to 64mm 110.00
4 ecu with jumper 350.00
5.labor around 400

total 2160.00 but you will gain more power.

But your setup should net some good power . you will have to raise rev limit to max out potential. Well what ever you choose make sure to dyno it.

What if I ran ITR Cams/Retainers/Springs with cam gears. What kinda power can be had from this setup if it is dyno tuned properly?

I am a college student so $$ is a issue (don;t wanna buy shitty parts though), i am looking for best bang for the buck my goal was 180-200whp that will be safe and reliable for daily driving and give me power when i need it.

Clint I remember you from csi. What shop is this that is giving you this quote? If it is horsepower house you can get the parts alot cheaper. Hope it goes well.

ctr intake cam and itr exhaust cam should net you around 8-15whp . not bad for around 650 including springs and retainers. get a headgasket and run ctr cams you should have really good street power for cheap.

looking over the thread again. i noticed u said its a 99si. isnt that a 1.6l single cam vtec?? i thought you only got dohc on the b16 found in the siR?? if this is the case. the only way youll hit 200whp is with a turbo kit.

but for that engine if u want to run a cam. a stage1 cam is all that should be run. if you go any bigger, youll lose power due to the lack of compression.

The EM1, USDM Si and Canadian SiR, both have the b16a2 .. DOHC VTEC 1.6 liter. The cars are nearly identical, excpet the SiR has ABS, heated mirrors, and comes in Vogue Silver Metallic as well. They are the same in almost everyway.

i am gonna run the buddy club stage 3's more than likely, they work from 10:1 to 13+ so with a headgasket i should be fine on compression.

I would only expect around 170-180 depending on how good the tuner is and how high the dyno reads. Either that or just smoke some the the stuff the guys are that quoted 200+whp on that set-up.

1. Buddy Club Stage 3 Cams
2. Omni Titanium Valve Springs
3. Omni Retainers
4. Cometic Headgasket
5. AEM Cam Gears
6. JDM ITR Header w/2.5" collector
7. Test Pipe (2.5")
8. 2.5" exhaust
9. OBD 1 Conversion
10. VAFC/Dyno Tuned
11. AEM CAI
12. Skunk 2 IM
13. Inline FOur Bored Throttle Body (70mm)

what are your opinions on modding my engine at 80K miles? should it hold up strong or is it likely to be unreliable? i wanna know if it is a waste to dump 2g's in a motor with that kinda mileage!

well i think i would be happy with 175-180whp, 200 was just a number i thought i would like, for daily driving 175 would prolly make me happy since i am basically stock now, lol.

i hsould be able to tel a NICE difference wouldn't you think?

oh and the shop guy said i could prolly get 180-200 but no more than that.
