Well I have a h22a4 that I have diagnosed with a bad rod bearing not completely spun there is alot of play though. Before pulling off the oil pan to inspect I tried to read oil pressure by just cranking the motor with no spark plugs battery was almost dead and I got 0 psi. Just wondering if I should be getting a reading with a bad rod bearing and dying battery?

 

yeah they would cause low oil pressure; but you wont get much pressure by cranking anyways.
defenetely more than 0 though

Definately more than 0, but not much more than say 10

yep, cranking pressure goes up to about 15/18 psi

Slow crank due to dying battery is gonna drop pressure even more too

 

Thats what im thinking so im going to replace the bearing charge the battery and see if I get pressure I dont want to replace the oil pump if I dont have to. Thanks for the responses.

 

No, a bad rod bearing will not affect oil pressure. It's not any where along the oil pressure "path."

 

It will affect pressure, just not greatly. The bearings are designed to basically "Leak" oil. They of course are intended for a certain amount of difference between crank diameter and bearing bore size. Any larger amount will result in a pressure loss. The greater the difference, the greater the loss.

Measurable?? That really depends on the condition of them

Explain to me exactly how Oil pressure flows to a ROD bearing. Not a main (he didn't mention mains).

As far as I know, oil leaves the pump through the galley to the filter, back from the filter to the return galley and that galley has direct feeds to the oil sender, mains, and cylinder head. Have you pressure tested a block before? I have. Trust me, you don't need the connecting rods on to do it. Somehow, I don't see oil pressure feeding the rod journals considering there is no oil path through the crank to those journals. I guess I'm missing something. Someone help me out.

what do you think feeds the rod bearings with oil? do you think oil just splashes in there?

Dude you must have never seen a crank in person. Theres oil paths drilled through both ends of the crank.

Just like if you have a crank/rod bearing with way too much clearance it will cause lower oil pressure. The same could be true for a spun bearing.
