Broke A Valve Cover Bolt Got Question
I already search and didn't find the answer. I have a sohc d15 and the valve cover bolt closest to the bumper. I broke the top part that the nut goes on. And was just wondering. If it makes a different of having one there or not? In other words, am wondering if it's safe to drive on one missing bolt.
It's probally going to leak. If you don't mind keeping tabs on how much your leaking and your oil levels all the time you can, but I'd suggest getting another.
youre gonna have to drill the old stud out before you can put the new bolt in, take it to a shop or a friend that knows what theyre doing, and has a drill
No actually you don't have to drill it. I already took the old bolt off because I thought I had a spare. But then realized that it was the shorter ones.

ummm so youre sure the bolt is completely removed from the threads?
btw i just remembered i think i heard that the valve cover bolts on d15s are some how connected to the rocker arms so that could be a problem for you if you dont replace it

not really, i found out that mine had 2 snapped valve cover bolts and they just super glued the head onto the valve cover, didn't leak that much if at all. mine were the front corners.

just go to a junkyard and rip one out. it happened to me when i overtorqued even a little when it was still warm. i just went to the local dump and ripped one off (bring the old one so you know the correct size). the guy at the dump didn't even charge me cause i was walking out with one bolt. he laughed and said get outta here. but i wouldn't drive it around cause you will lose a lot of oil through that little hole you created and cause like 1/4 of your valve cover is lose cause 1 of 4 caps is missing!
I actually went to the dealer today and got one. But then it was too short didn't do much help to me. It's not leaking that bad actually it's just creeping slowly.
I didn't think of the long stud maybe I should go and check that out. To tell you guys the truth. I need this problem fixed ASAP because I have to go somewhere this weekend. And I don't really have the time to be playing in the oil. I might just take it to the dealer. How much you guys think they'll charge me?
Thanks for the replies though.

I did tell them. I even pointed it on the little part chart thing they got. It's the front left. The one right next to the distributor. He gave me the one that I was asking for. It was the same exact one the only problem was it was shorter by like 1 and a half centimeters or so.
Just another quick question. For the two front valve cover bolts. Are the d16z6 shorter then the d15? I was just curious because I still don't know why the one the dealer parts guy gave me was a bit shorter. Which meant it didn't even get to the threads. Oh and I don't know if this matters but, this d15 is a replacement motor because the original d15b7 shot a rod. So the block just says D15. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
