Ran Power steering empty. HELP
What can happen if I ran my power steering out of fluid? Is there a specific kind of power fluid that I have to use or can I just go to AutoZone and buy any kind?
TIA
TIA
if you ran it empty, them you cavitated your pump. pitting it everywhere and probably ruining it. it may work, but not as well as it should. buy some ps fluid and see what happens....
Take it out if you end up needing to repair it. It is cheaper that way. Besides, who needs it? Other than that ^^do what he said. Good luck!

Sorry I can't answer you, seeing as though I haven't had power steering in about 2 years. If you have a Helms or Chiltons, that should tell you. If not, the guys at Autozone should be able to tell you.

I always suggest OEM Honda P.S. fluid, but if you buy fluid at an auto parts store, make sure it is clearly labled "For use with Honda P.S. systems".
Here's an example of an aftermarket Honda-compatible P.S. fluid:

if you are considering taking it off look at this

there is alot of useful info here and this looks like a safe way of eliminating the parasitic power steering and keeping you rack in good shape (i have been running this for the last 3 onths and everything is GRAVY and there are alot of people running the same set up with no problems)
as for fluid I use the stuff from autozone for HONDAs

same as ps fluid</TD></TR></TABLE>
Is it? I use engine oil for my tranny fluid. It even says the same thing in both my Honda Civic and Acura Integra service manual (from the dealerships). But for automatic tranny's it's a different fluid you're supposed to use. I've never dealt with power-steering fluid before. Always took it off or just never had one.
