Help Please...Wierd ticking noise
For the past while i have been hearing a wierd ticking (not detonation) under light throttle (driving in traffic, etc.) It only seems to occur between 1800-2500rpm.
Im not sure where to even start looking. No CEL's, checked various connections, checked to see if there is anything in the engine bay that may be rattling.
It hasn't gotten any worse since it started but sure is annoying.
Any suggestions from the Honda Gurus?
Car is an 00 civic w/ d16y7 and y8 IM.

Maybe you need a valve adjustment. When I had my d16, I heard a light ticking noise like what you described, and that's what everyone told me. Then it blew up on me
That's ok, I like the B16 a lot more anyway
. Good luck.

I posted this exact thing a long while back, i had the same EXACT problem with the same motor, at the same RPM. A little while later (about 60 miles) the motor blew and threm a rod. 3000 dollars later i bought a D16Z6 and had it rebuilt to new, now i have another ticking sound, maybe its a valve adjustment i think. First try that, i can almost gurantee its either that, or abent valve maybe?
Well good luck, and i hope its just an adjustment.
Later, PM me if your need any more help....

Holy sh*t! Why didn't you just get a B-, H-, or K- Series? For 3k you could have gotten an H22, GSR, or B16. Oh well. The D16 was kinda fun.

Most likely your problem. All hondas tick a bit, and need to have valve adjustments done once and a while.

I think about 70 - 90k is what the Chilton's says. Or sooner if your engine is ticking and is ABOUT TO BLOW UP! In which case you swap in an RB26DETT with 3 turbos running 50 lbs of boost each.

Thank you guys for all the replies so far!
Had the valve's adjusted a month or so ago and it didn't change anything.
The noise seems to be more noticable on my morning drive to work (after the car sat overnight). After that it gets quieter but doesnt go away.
If i step on it, or atleast bring it up over 3000rpm it seems to go away.
Been doin this for quite some time now.

Save some money up, your motor is going to blow pretty soon, trust me

I have a 93 del sol d16z6, that makes a tick cold neutral or in gear around 2K.
I finally went to get a stephascope and found it to be the injectors, this is after a valve adjustment

Maybe too low of octane. I get the noise when giving some gas, like a piece of paper is blowing in the wind. It only happens when I put anything less than 93.
I have a 94CX and my motor has been doing this for years. When its cold, it sound like marbles in the crank case. If I use the lightest or heaviest amount of throttle it doen't do it. Some times it would run for a month without doing it, and then... I have adjusted the valves 3 times (no change) and I havn't been able to figure it out. I took it to a mechanic a long time ago (of course it didn't make the noise for him) and he told me he was going to replace my rocker arm assembly and mabey that would fix it (I said no thanks). I have put over 50,000 miles with this condition, so I just said F--k it.
Swap coming soon...
