Need advise ( just recieved my H22 swap )
Well everyone I just recieved my H22 swap from http://www.venus-auto.com and everything looks to be real decent. I am missing the downpipe, but I called them immediatelly and they are shipping one right away. It appears my TPS sensor may be damaged, and the intake sensor is broken, normal valve cover damage, and a little dirty, but overall I am real happy. I was told the engine has between 30K and 70K kilometers on it.
The only concern I have is that I removed the valve cover and the oil residue is really dirty. Not quite sludge but real close. And it has left a black grime on the valves and stuff.
Does this mean the engine has been abused, or just neglected?
Is this a sign of high mileage?
I looked at the oil filter and it is a honda genuine filter, and the plugs are NGK, so I am assuming they are original. The belts ( timing, balance shaft, alternator, and water pump ) are all like new.
Is there anyway I can clean the oil residue and grime off without haveing to disassemble the head?
Should I return the engine?
Should I not worry about it and just do a couple oil changes right away?
By the way I removed the plugs and manually cranked it over and everything seemed normal. (no wierd noises, and the valves and springs moved freely)
I am planning on installing this engine friday but I don't want to do it if the engine isn't what it is supposed to be.
PLEASE HELP!!
Thank you all in advance!

No you shouldn't worry that much
This residue is due to the fact they kept the engine some time without running it. What we did when swapping a new engine? We poured it with the cheapest mineral oil, let it run for 20-30 minutes to heat up and clean the residue. Then we changed an oil filter and poured a new semi synt/synt (what you prefer) oil. And after 2000km we changed oil once again just to be sure. And it's running like a champ now.
Good luck with swap

you can always follow up with a compression check as well

Thanks for the help, but what is MINERAL OIL? I have never heard of it. Could you maybe tell me where I can get it? Is this dangerous?
Does any one know though if this means anything else (or could it)?
Thanks alot

Take pictures, lots of pictures. I swapped in my h22a and the wire harness looks like ****, cause i couldn't remember where some of the brackets went. Also, use this as an opportunity to replace all your belts, hoses and most of your seals and clutch/flywheel, if you've got the bank. I would also think about dropping the oil pan and cleaning the sludge off.
