92 Prelude, H23A, smoke at low throttle, bad rings?
Hi, my girlfriend has a 92 Prelude Si. It smokes a little at low throttle. If i am sitting at a stop light, and I rev the engine a little, smoke comes out. If I rev it up higher, it doesn't, unless I just can't see it because of the higher exhaust velocity. It is most apparent when I put it in reverse and start backing up into a parking space. It seems to smoke more when it starts going in reverse, but that doesn't make sense to me. My dad suggested the worse case it would be a piston ring going bad. How likely is this? Is there a easier, less costly way to fix this problem? She is swapping an H22 in next august, so it has to last until then. Thanks for any help.
i have this same problem and also had it in my last h23. it is the valve stem seals.
oh and you could burn up a valve. the one i have now has been like this for about 6 months. i just keep it full on oil and havent seemed to have a problem yet. ie. compression is still good. then again i dont think i would have compression problems as valve seals usually blowby when there is vacuum. maybe some of these other guys can help with this also.
