Default Running lean/rich? help! (throwing codes)

A little background:

I just got doing a head swap on my 2000 dx hatchback to make it sohc vtec, instead of sohc non-vtec. I also put the edelbrock complete turbo kit on at the same time.

Problem:

When it was all said and done, I am pulling a couple of codes. 3, 23, and 45, which is, if im not mistaken, Map sensor is getting a high input, Knock sensor problem ( I don't have a knock sensor ), and I'm running rich or lean. Decided I've done enough to this car, I wanted to figure out what was wrong with it, and have someone else do the work, I took it into a local shop. They told me my timing was off by a lot. They set there gun to 16 or something and i saw that it was off. But the said I had to get an ajustable cam gear to fix the problem, can't I just adjust the distributer? Will this fix the problem? Help!

Symptoms:

1. Car stumble upon acceleration and idle on start-up.
2. Car backfires when given a lot of gas.
3. Car actually wouldn't let me give it gas on the highway when was pretty fast it eventually would die down everytime i tried to give it gas. I had to turn the car off and restart it and the problem was fixed. Wierded out!

*I checked my spark plugs, they look pretty red believe it or not. and had just a little black around the rim. ( not oil )

I'm not too familiar with boost, so I cannot do too much but.....Why do you not have a knock sensor? Unless you are running a program that eliminates it, it will throw a code etc. As for [ignition] timing, yes, you can set it with the distributer. Where is your MAP sensor located? I do believe that boost will affect its readings if not placed properly, correct? Someone more familiar with boost needs to chime in....

y8s have knock sensors. I think he is running a y8 ecu. I would just change over to obd I ecu with uberdata. Also with timing go by yourself a timing light and jump the connector and check your timing. Usually if your timing is off by a tooth your car won't even start, and if it does you will have a hard time running it. I think they are feeding you BS. Just adjust the timing with a dizzy.

hey man.. runing boost will cause u some trouble with the intake u need a missing link to fool the computer to not read boost and check you timing make sure u got the right timming belt also,, it would help u alot if u got a jumper and went to obd1.. u can use a 92-95 vtec computer witch is a p-28.. it will get read of some of your sensors and make it run a lot smoother,, if it still runs a little like it;'s falling own it;s face then u are not getting enough fuel in boost, get a gauge and watch and see what it does mine was rich before vtec with a gsr computer at vtec it would start to lean at boost it would fall own it;s face,, i need more fuel.. hope this helps.. if u need any thing let me no....
ps air to fuel gagues will help..

I adjusted the dizzy and fixed my timing, and it just idles higher or lower accordinglly. It still has all of the symptoms described in the first post though.

However! I just got another code reading an iacv fault. Could the signs above be early signs of a bad iac valve? is therhe a way to clean it or anything, to delay the process of buying a new one?

you never mentioned.. what kind of fuel management are you using?

obd-2 cars tend to be VERY picky towards any changes. I would get a obd2b-obd1 harness, use a p28 and run uberdata. or alteast the AFC w. 450cc injectors.

I talked to a technician who noticified me that it was my map sensor and that this was a common problem with the edelbrock turbo kits. I'm just gonna have to buy on and keep my fingers crossed i guess.
