D16y5 (hx) distributor on d16y8 (ex) head??
(tried searching..no answer what so ever)
I can get a good deal on a distributor coming off of a 96 hx (d16y5). Does anyone know if this will fit on a d16y8 head? I'm mostly concerned about the 3 bolts lining up correctly because I can always swap in my d16z6 dizzy guts into the d16y5 dizzy casing. Has anyone tried this? thanks let me know.

It can fit, it is not the same and can potentially cause problems or be problematic.
I suggest staying with the Y8 dizzy.

I dont have a y8 dizzy, but I have a z6 one laying around. Can I just swap in the guts of my z6 into the y5 dizzy, since the z6 don't bolt up directly?
also, have you tried a y5 on a y8 head before?

The z6 guts may work, but really you should just try and find a y8 dizzy. try ebay or a local junkyard.</TD></TR></TABLE>
You're mistaken, the Y5 is a VTEC engine.

Not only that, it will work on a y8 head

A) Don't mix and match differing OBD2 generation dizzy's with one another - the whole 8 vs. 9 pin connector comes into play.
B) I'm not so sure I'd stick a Y5 dizzy on a Y8 head as they have different part numbers:
Y5 = 30105-P2M-A01
Y8 = 30105-P2E-A11

I test fitted one on my y8 today, and only 2 of the 3 bolts line up..I'm not sure if I wanna try the y5 dizzy when i get my y8 in my eg...i think i'll just swap in my z6 internals in the y5 casing. Can anything get damaged by trying the y5 dizzy?
ALL THE DISTRIBUTOR FROM THE D16Y7 D16Y8 AND THE D16Y5 ARE ALL THE SAME. THE ONLY THING THAT MAKES THE ENGINES DIFFERENT ARE THE SIZE OF THE PISTON AND THAT THE D16Y8 IS A V TEC

Do you mean all of the internals of the dizzy's are the same, because the y5 doesn't bolt up to all 3 holes, just 2.
