WCHC #59 AUTOCANNON/SGR Civic- TEARDOWNS FER REAAAALLLL!
Yup.
They were serious about the inspections.
They even inspected US- and everyone knows that we are running a completely STOCK B18-CR (NO cams, No fuelpressure regulator, no headers, no chipped ecu, no upgraded injectors, no cam sprockets, NADA!) At first we were reluctant to pull apart a perfectly running motor which has been running faithfully the entire year, 14 races and 7 test days without ANY problems! An awesome stock JDM motor provided by LiberoUSA.net (sponsor plug!)
We tried to ask Ryan if we could just Dyno the car, since this was not a high horsepower front-running car anyway, and his reponse was "You guys are CHAMPS! You are finishing the year in 2nd place in H1, so you will definitely need to be inspected." And since we went the entire year without any mechanical problems, he wanted to be sure that our reliability was due to genuine Honda reliability. Even out transimission and clutch are stock...
So reluctantly we started to pull the motor apart, and we were instructed to remove the head. I even started getting worried, thinking "If this is a pre-owned JDM motor, there might* be a slight chance that the internals are not completely OEM."
Well, waddaya know, our motor is stock as stock can be!
And you know what, even though we were resistant to the inspections at first, I am actually glad that Ryan and NASA finally did them. (I know, I know, Grumble Grumble) We had an incredible Rookie year, and I would like to see the series grow, and in my opinion cheating can definitely kill H1.
I mean, how would you feel if you sunk all of your hard-earned money, time, and effort just to compete in a series that you cannot possibly win?
I know that some people say that "It's just racing, who cares as long as you can race" and some people say "cheating is a part of racing" or, "Who cares, it's just a $5 dollar trophy at the end of the year anyway."
But it isn't just a $5 trophy, is it?
Our $5 trophy represents ONE YEAR of Hard work, day and night, from myself and my crew Lee Lim, Sam Rothschild, Tim Torrecarrion, Gabe Bogtong, Dan Wilson, and major contributions from our sponsors Toyo, TEIN, Libero USA, 5Zigen, Dave Turner Motorsports, Sparco, SPC, Hasport...
Our $5 Trophy represents the countless contributions from our team mates and friends, Sam Higashi, Thomas Okihisa, Tsuyoshi-san, Adrian, David, Philip Chase, Nakai, Shugano, Noel Hina, Rachelle, Vicki, Heather, Jenny, Larry Nelson, Tyler, and many other people...
Our $5 Trophy represents the THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, and THOUSANDS OF MANHOURS poured into the commitment of running a entire season.
Still sound like a $5 trophy? To some people it might, but to our AUTOCANNON/SGR Team it sure isn't.
We all make incredible sacrifices to the Race God in order to participate in this sport we love, and we hope that the Race Gods keep everything EVEN and SAFE. I hope that this inspection sends a positive message into the next year... I'm looking forward to it.
Oh, well.... so much for my rant. I'll get back to refilling the NOS in our roll cage tubing...
-Dennis "Hoping he will have something actually worth inspecting next year" Caco
Oh, yeah- one more thing- Our team mate, Higashi in the ENDLESS EG #9 did his teardown and he is 100% legal also (200+ HP)- He got 1st place on Sunday, and he won the 3 hour Enduro class E0 on Saturday (I was co-driver, my first place ever!). HP + 100% Legal + Reliabilty. Congrats!

Yeah, that would have been real interesting. Well, we were prepared, and we even helped Higashi disassemble and reassemble his motor.

I don't get it (and I didn't read the other thread completely), but if there were no protests filed, why did they (NASA) force the tear downs? Just because you finished the season well? Did NASA file a protest against you?

Nope. There were no protests. I think it would have been hilarious if anyone protested us...
I am assuming that this is part of just keeping the series in check. And, I am sure that there have been rumblings of cheating etc, etc, etc... but I don't know for sure.

Then our job is done! [Insert Superman theme music here]
Thats the reason why we put the "Project Underdog" sticker on our windshield.
I'll post a little bit of a video of the first lap of our last race for you to see how our car fared on our best race to date...

Nice post. And great job this year!
I suppose we can look forward to H4 inspections next month...ready Edo?

I would think they could be able to tell if everything is legal by removing the oil pan and VC, and the use of a scope. Better yet come up with max at the wheels torque and HP for each car in HC and just stick em on the dyno. American Iron does this all the time.
Congratulations on a great year, Dennis. You guys are an inspiration to us all (especially to me!) Good luck with the end of the season, hopefully I'll make it out to Willow next month. Mad props to you and Sam for taking the teardowns in stride and proving to us all that cars can truly be competetive in stock form. I don't plan on doing a thing to my D16 for awhile, so I hope I don't have any problems, either. You are both gentleman racers!!!!
Yep I have always been ready. Even had a Spare head gasket on hand in case they wanted it opened saturday. Will also be ready Next month.

If you didn't know any better you'd think something different after visiting some of the other Tech forums
This should be in the H-T Knowledge Base!
Congrats to D. CACO for passing the test!

Won't really have time until this weekend. I have to much studying and crap and midterms coming up.
Pics werent really exciting though. Mostly from the tower cause I had to be close to the pits in case anything happened to my bros #78 DA.

you know for just about everything they were going to look at with the top off they could have scoped it.
dam, your team is 100% inspiring. (to a newb)- didnt you throw together your entire car in 6 weeks or something crazy like that, and are having such awesome results this season? and your running a 100% stock GSR motor, right?
can you PM me the link to your first thread with you telling all about your car, again?

Yeah, we wished we coulda just used a scope- but Ryan wanted it off. I think he wanted to also measure bore...
We asked about Dyno'ing it- which would have been cool because we never dynoed the car, and I was curious about the HP.

It's actually 100% Stock B18C-R (96 JDM Spec)- I'm glad we inspire you, and what we have always been promoting and hoping is that we inspire enough other peeps to go race- (I'm a former Streeet Ricer like 99% of the people here
)
Here's the previous link you requested:

And thanks for the compliments from everyone
- they really should go to my crew for the awesome job they did... (We're ALL rookies BTW, none of us had previous racing experience) If you want to see these guys in action, you 'll see them crewing the 25 HR this year for Higashi's #9 Civic. (I might be driving too!)
And, I'm editing a short Video of our first lap on Sunday.... will post soon.
