Default coilovers question with stock shocks.......

if i buy some coilovers and only lower when i want it lowered and keep it at stock level when i don't want it dropped, will the shocks hold up? meaning that if i used them in replace of my stock springs, will they be ok? at the same level.........

This depends on how long you are going to leave it dropped. I wouldn't leave it like that for more than a day. Other than that, I don't think you're going to have any trouble.

so then i can leave it at a zero setting and things should be the same as stock right?.......and once in awhile i drop it to the max for a day of driving with one other person, that would be ok right? are most coilovers the same when you use it with stock shocks?......like ground control and skunk2 vs. APC and OBX crap?....

Now you are talking dangerous stuff. Lowering the car AND driving it on stockers isn't a good idea. You'll bottom the stockers out and then you'll have a nice little oil leak from the shocks. I would suggest the aftermarket companies. They are shorter, and designed better for lowered driving. The bumpstops are bigger, and they'll look better besides.

Just my $.02

I have an EK Civic with coil-overs and stock shocks. I've lowered mine about 2.5in, I cut the bump stops in half, just to prevent the shocks from completly bottoming out. So far I like the way it rides, it's not as bouncy as most cars I've been in, and it handles great, if you want to leave it lowered DO NOT take the bump stops out, cut them in half and leave half in...otherwise I say slam it.

so then if i get coilovers then as long as i lowered it once in awhile and the rest of the time on stock level, then my stock shocks should be ok right?....if it leaks then thats when its time for aftermarket shocks like Koni yellows or something right. that should do the trick i presume. otherwise it should be ok or what?.....also, if i plan to lower once in awhile, do i still need to cut or get rid of the bump stop stuff or what?.....THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT

Just wait and get some good aftermarket shocks to go with the coilovers. No point in lowering it with stock shocks then later buying new shocks and putting them on. Trust me, you will like the ride much better with aftermarket shocks.
