Emissions legal turbo?? heck yeah! check out these results!
Well, with my registration due tomorrow, I went and had a standard smog check, as per California State laws, the first one I had to do since its now 5 years olds. For those of you who don't live here, a car doesn't have to be smogged checked until 5 years from the date of purchase, or when it changes ownership, then its checked every two years. It was smogged checked using a dyno to load the car.
My car:
00 Civic EX (D16Y8) with 98,500 miles (28,500 with turbo)
New cat was installed 18 months ago before the turbo @ 68,000 miles
Edelbrock turbo kit (CARB E.O. legal) @ 7psi, intalled @ 70,000 miles
Smog Test Results:
15mph (1943 rpm)
%CO2: Measured = 14.7
%O2: Measured = 0
HC (PPM): Max allowed = 64, Average = 9, Measured = 28
%CO: Max allowed = .55, Average = .02, Measured = .03
NO (PPM): Max allowed = 477, Average = 57, Measured = 0
25mph (2007 rpm)
%CO2: Measured = 14.6
%O2: Measured = 0
HC (PPM): Max allowed = 47, Average = 7, Measured = 14
%CO: Max allowed = .54, Average = .03, Measured = .02
NO (PPM): Max allowed = 764, Average = 50, Measured = 0
I was very happy to see those numbers! With how many miles I have put on it with the turbo, and how hard I like to drive, I was worried.
It was also nice to know that the Edelbrock turbo kit will run that clean in the long term!

Stock injectors with a secondary set used to add fuel with boost, stock fuel pressure/fuel pump.
The smog tech didn't check for E.O. numbers untill after he ran the car. He didn't care about the equipment on the car, just ran it.
I would reccommend to anyone going to do a smog check, to have the equipment list for the turbo kit on hand in case you get a picky smog tech, for the visual check.

Cool, man. That's basically how the JRSC passes smog, too. Pretty much any setup that uses stock injectors + FMU or stock injectors + piggback secondaries that only add fuel during boost will run like a stock car when it comes time to smog.

Hallo,
i have a question, my car (b16a1) uses 280ccm Prelude injectors and is good tuned, closed loop is enabled and working.
Here in germany we have a exhaust gas test, but when the car stands still at aprox. 2000rpm-2500rpm, so no load on the engine.
my A/F is fine at 14,7:1 so this test is passed, but my CO values are much too high.
i have a 100cell race cat, maybe thats the problem, but i have many ppl they say thats no problem with such a cat, so my question, is there any other reason why my CO values are too high???
Thanks
Malte.
