Default D15b2 5-speed transmission on d15b1 engine?

I was wondering if a 5-speed transmission off of a 1990 DX hatchback d15b2 will fit on a 1990 STD hatchback d15b1. If so, what all else is required to make this transmission fit? Would I have to get a new clutch, flywheel, axles, shift linkage - basically anything in addition to just the transmission?

Everything should be good with it.. The DX tranny is kinda shitty for performance since it has a 3.88 final drive.. But will be good for gas mileage..

Mainly would like to get it because everytime I get to around 53 mph, my hand instintivly goes to the shifter to shift. Performance isn't really an issue. And good gas mileage is one of the reasons I have this car. How much do these usually run?

You can usally pick up a dx tranny pretty cheap.. If your really looking for gas mileage then get an hf tranny..

How does the HF compare to the 4-speed transmission in the STD?

Does the hf bolt onto a d15b1 without anything to add?

yes, yes, and yes

I have a D15B1 in an 88STD with a CRX 5-Speed DX transmission on it.

The HF will fit, the Si will fit, the STD will fit, any cable D-series will fit.

If the dx tranny will bolt on to it then the hf will also..

Great - thanks. However, what else would I have to get besides just the hf transmission to work in my car? Would I have to get a new clutch, flywheel, axles, shift linkage - basically anything in addition to just the transmission?

Your good.. Just take one tranny off and put the other one on.. The 88's are different than the rest and the 90-91 have a bigger clutch than the 89's but the 89-91 trannies are all interchangable with each other..

Okay, so, if I were to get an '89 - not an '88 - hf transmission, I wouldn't have to get a different clutch. If I were to get a '90-'91 hf transmission, I would have to get a clutch that fit in the hf transmission.
Is this correct?

No.. You can get an 88-91 tranny and it will fit an 89-91 clutch.. The 89's had smaller clutches than the 90-91 but they all(89-91) had the same tranny..
