Default stuck axle nut!

been trying to loosen the 32 mm axle nut, but nothing! the part on the nut which is pushed in to prevent it from coming loose is really tight on one side. it is crushed in all the way down to the threads and there is no room to fit anything in there to open it up. on the other side, i got it kinda open with a flathead, but it started ******* the tip so i stopped. whats the best tool to try to bend it out? small *** chisel?

but anyway, i tried loosening the nut i had already bent out a lil with an impact wrench, but it still wouldnt come off! so i had someone step on the brakes and i tried to break the nut with a breaker bar, so no results yet.

anybody run into this problem and what did you do?

thanks

what i did was just grab a HUGE cheater bar find anything around the house me/friends have this breaker bar from like a boat jack and its huge and perfect....if u dont have one then just go to a local shop and a tech should have a nice gun to loosen it up then when he loosens it just tell him to torque it down to like 80 ft/lbs

get the slot positioned so that you're striking down on it and as you mentioned get a small chisel or a punch and hammer it with a sledge. once you get it. put the tire back on, drop the car, and break the axle nut with the tire on the ground.

i had to grind the nut and damage the axle once because i was to cheap to rent out a HUGE 1inch TQ monster impact gun. I heated it with a torch then when at it with my air gun for like 20 mins. I broke 2 craftsman breaker bars (6ft fence pipe cheater bar) (sears didnt like me exchanging them ). So i just gave up and i just started to grind the nut and hitting it with a flathead and a hammer at an angle to break loose the nut. It eventually did break loose (after 1hr) a little bit so i finished taking it off with an airgun. So good luck man....

Where on the east coast are you? If you come to my house in MD i can get it off in 30 seconds. My impact gun will take the bolt right off even if it still staked.

If you can't get it off, just take the car to any good mechanic shop. One hit with the impact wrench and it will come right off. Bring your new nut with you and put it on with some grease tight enough to get you home. BTW 32mm - 1 1/4", because the mechanic is unlikely to have a 32mm socket

Don't even get me started on axle nuts. I just spent the majority of the weekend removing one from my CRX. First I tried it with the car on the ground, tire and everything. I used an impact driver and a 1/2" breaker bar with a 5' jack handle and my full body weight jumping (200 lbs). No luck. Figuring I needed an impact wrench, I powered up the compressor and hit it with my 3/8" impact which delivers a small 500-600ish lbs or torque. No luck. I called a friend, a contractor, and he brought over the 1" impact wrench with well over 1K torque. Nada. So he tells me "you know, we can generate even more torque with a longer cheater bar." So the car goes back on the ground, impact socket goes on with a 3/4 cheater bar this time and 8' of heavy gauge steel tubing from my friends truck. Nada. Keep in mind we hit this nut with a torch and the spray can of whatever nut remover we had each time.

In the end, we had to cut it off with a die grinder. On inspection of the threads we can't see any reason at all why this nut wouldn't move. Bastard.

I have a 5 foot long lead pipe that i got from OSH for about 6 bucks, Slide that on the end of my 1/2 ratchet and have someone press down on the brakes. It always works for me. That and make sure your turning the right way.

Dremel Show that axle what's up. LOL

The first time I removed the axle nut, I had to use a 1/2" drive breaker bar with 36" gas pipe extension to loosen it. I put wheel bearing grease on the threads before i put the axle nut on. Torqued to 134 ft.lb and loosened it 9 months later using only a 18" 1/2" drive breaker bar.

PB blaster, let that soak a little. Vibrate it a little bit or what ever. with a Air chizzle. Im 250 and I used a PVC pipe about 6 feet long on a 1\2 in driver( not Wrench, the one that doesnt turn. just has the 1\2 in nub) and Im there hanging off of it. didnt break loose. PB blasted the hell out of it, Let it soak over night. Put my Air gun to it, bam its over. that was on muh talon though

Here's what I do. Put the car on the ground with the e brake cranked. Spray the **** out of it with some liquid wrench, and hammer on it with a hammer. Let it set for 10 mins or so. get a big 32 mm impact socket (1/2" or bigger, obviously) and a 18" extension. Then, get a 4 foot pipe or bigger. Have one guy lean on the pipe as hard as he can, while you hammer on it with a hammer (snapping force, this will help dislodge it more easily). That should work. As for the tab, get a tough screwdriver or a chisel and put it up against it. Hammer on it with a BFH (Big fuckinhg hammer). Always works for me.

Oh, btw, I've put enough force on a bar (by myself) to drag the entire car forward, so you may want to jam the wheels somehow.

when i did my swap i was having no luck. i broke two 1/2 inch breaker bars and i was gettitng pissed off. so i sprayed with wd40 and got my friedns husky impact gun. after a few shots with that it finally broke loose. that gun had i think 600 lbs of torque. u need alot of torque to get those bitches off. i think it was the first time it ever came off in 12 years

The little area that is pushed in on mine so I took turns blasting with PB and then torching it. Went back and forth for about 10 minutes doing that, than I had my friend hit the brakes AND put it into gear. From there on in, placed a 3ft steel pipe over 18 inch breaker and pushed down until it came off.

I always hit the nut with my imapct gun. first in the tighten drive to break it loose then reverse it and it should come right off. Also try it on one of the lower torque settings. I can't explain why, but it ALWAYS works for me. Good luck..

get BFR (Big F***ing Ratchet) take jack handle off jack place on BFR. Now stand on handle and gentle bounce and it will come loose. Make sure ratchet is lifetime warranty.

This worked for me I had broken 2 screwdriver, and used an impact

I had this same problem recently... FROZEN.
It was the original axle and that nut would not break free. I ended up cutting it off with a dremel after breaking 2 1/2 inch breaker bars .

Good luck man!

I the very same problem a day or so ago. I broke a couple bars and tools (one was a $200 snap on bar) and there was only one way to get it loose. Heat. And lots of it. I tried my propane torch for 15 minutes or so on it several time, heating it as hot as the torch would go. The nut was still stuck. Then it dawned on me, MORE HEAT. So I pushed my car over to my neighbors house where he had an oxy-acetelyne torch. We set that ****** on really high and torched it till the nut was bright red. Then all it took was just a little tug from a breaker bar and she broke loose easily. The bar that broke it loose was about 1/4 the size of all the bars I had broken in the last couple of days

No, it's 148ft/Lbs of torque. And it should be for all of them to my knowledge; why would you want to even chance your axle going AWOL on you because a nut (Which Honda recommend's that you replace after you take it off) wasn't on tight enough?
