b16a no codes, oil is full, speedo works, in a crx dx vtec not engaging?
1990 crx Dx with obd-0 1g b16a in it with a pr3 ecu, no codes everythings wired up, and vtec will not activate. Tryed replacing vtec solenoid nothing, checked it to see if it worked by hooking up 12vs to it and it clicked. Could the ecu be bad dont kno. when you unplug the vtec solenoid sensor it throws a code for it so i kno its hooked up and the ecu does work, when my speedo wasn't working it was throwing a code for that too, and now i have cleared the ecu and no codes and no vtec at all.

just a random question...is the vtec solenoid supposed to get 12v or 5v? cuz that may have fried it....?
what is your oil pressure? VTEC will not engage if oil pressure is below 57psi at 5000rpm
I dont know, no way to check. I cant see it being low though
I think it may be a wiring problem, but dont know how to diagnose

if it was a wiring problem, you should be getting codes - maybe the filter in the solenoid is plugged?
same prob here to. 91 rex w/ jdm b16a w/ no VTEC. checked all wiring and even undone my vafc and went straight back to ecu only. only mine rev's out @ 7200rpm. even swaped my pr3 ecu out w/ a buddies pwo ecu. still nothing. i have all the vtec off of it right now cleaning it all out & up. will let you guys know how i come out with this try.
Check the FAQ. There's a thread in there that covers this issue with links to several resources that will show you other things to diagnose. The solenoid isn't the only thing that can cause vtec to not engage. Check it out, do some wrenching then come back if that doesn't work. Good luck.
OK I DID ALL THIS SHIZZLE AND IT STILL DON'T WORK. IT IS EVEN WORSE NOW IT ONLY PULLS TO 6800 NOW. BOUT OVER THIS CAR, ( ANY 1 GOT A MATCH ) ??? ANYTHING ELSE I MIGHT BE OVER LOOKING ?
I have a similar problem... 97 EK with a 01 GSR p72 fully wired besides a knock sensor and any O2 sensors..
my Vtec cracks just about once per run.... tomorrow imma get to check my service lights (well the codes) but if any one has any info on this **** im sure youll be helping a bunch of us. btw wen my vtec cracks i go to 8000rpm but when it doesnt enage it only hits 6800ish

$100.00 bucks says it's your speedo, happened to me. your have a speed amplifier in your speedo and that is what sends the sig to your ECU. your speedo will still work as long as your cable is plugged in and good. It won't throw a code or anything which sucks because it stumped the sh*t out of me. put in a KNOWN good unit and your vtec should come out of hiding
