Who makes better amps than JL?
I know JBL has their GTO series. Those, along with MTX are great. But who's amps are better than JL audio's? I am keeping my w6v2 but if there's a better way to get power to it I'd like the input of you guys. Thanks.
zapco makes a better amp then JL or so i have herd. I have not had a chance to test this yet, but this is just what someone told me from their personal experiance.

It also depends on what ohmage you want to use. of course we all know 1 ohm is the best, and if you want to go that route, zapco makes their c2k series amp that is 1 ohm.

this pic is of the 4kw which produces up to 5000 watts of pure power.
I would recommend getting a cap or a seperate battery too ;-)

You see, there are some who desire ear damaging power but personally I've grown out of that. I am talking about the cleanest power, not necessarily the most power. You seem to have misread my question. Who produces a better quality amp, that will not overheat, will last years, provide clean power throughout the product line, much like JL does. I think JBL does also, and MTX amps are quality. But I dunno if they're in the same league. I want some opinions on this one, we all know JL, JBL, Directed, are the pinnacle right? Does anyone disagree? If so, who is?
Do you have a zapco amp? Are their amps reliable while pushing 5k watts? That would take a nuclear reactor or many car batteries lol. Wish I could afford something like that, maybe 2000 watts at the most. I get headaches from some of my buddies cars and I don't know how they do it all day!
Amps I would consider "better" the JL amps for what I like an amp to do:
Zapco
Tru
USAmps
Linear Power
Xtant
McIntosh
Brax
I'm sure there are a few more out there that I could think of, but that's what's off the top of my head. Most if not all of those will be more expensive then the JL's though...

That may be but he also has a lot of JL stuff for sale. Can't blame him, but then again, if I had that kind of equipment I'd be bragging on it too. Anyways, I asked for opinions, can you not provide your own?

I personally do not have a zapco amp, i have a 490 watt Eclipse 4/3/2 channel, EA3422 amp hooked up to all 4 of my aftermarket midranges, and my two 12" subs.
now for a 490 watt amp to power all these and sound good is pretty damn good in my opinion. it sounds good and my amp has this protection thing in it so that if any speaker is in danger of blowing, it will cut completely and not turn on again until you reset your deck (detach and retach)
I have a low budget so this was all i could afford :-P
but now that i listen to it more and more, its really all i need. it will bump when i want it to bump, but sound really clean at lower volume settings.

Where you want me to start?
PG, PPI, Audison,zapco, plenty.
It all depends what you want the amp for.
Some have more punch than others, while some are cleaner than others.
Is price a concern?
Plenty of companies make better amps than JL, JL makes some good amps, but there are so many others better than them, considering JL only started making amps a few years back compared to companies who have been making amps much longer.

Might I ad Soundstream Autotek and Pheonix gold.
I dont care for anything under the Directed brand including PPI, Orion, ADS which all used to be good brands until Directed took them over.

Soundstream's current line is crap IMO - I only like the old reference stuff - when it worked.
Autotek - great bang for the buck
PG - I'm not sure about their current lineup - they called the carbon fiber badge on the OctaneR line a "feature" - never good news. I have not touched the Xenon line yet....the Tantrum and Titanium lines were nice though
The only PPI's I would ever use are the Arts and perhaps the original PC's (dark charcoal grey ones)

Don't forget Arc Audio...
I have had my 1100d Directed for over 3 years now.. and still haven't used it because I couldn't find a sub that i wanted and then didn't really want all of that bass.... I don't know if it even works... I bought it brand new but never installed
I had the 600d before and that was a great amp... but then again these are both the old versions... not sure how the new Directed amps are.

Don't know anything about there current line but if the same guy is desgining them then I wouldn't doubt that it's still great stuff. Every manufacturer has a crap line there forced to. I don't have any experience with there current line up though.
There customer service is second to none. Much more than I can say for Directed.

That customer service comment strikes me as interesting, considering the horror stories I have heard about soundstream.
IMO, soundstream has hit almost flea market level -
I think that TRU and Zapco's Customer Service are about as good as you can get

AAAHAHHAHAHAHA.. *GASP* AHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA
Thanks I needed a good laugh..
Better can be described in so many ways. JL offers alot of options on their amps and offer alot of diversity in their amps to do certain things that others cannot do.. What may be better for some may not be for the next one. So better is defined by the user and what the user is looking for.. Some are looking for SQ.. Some are looking for SPL..
And then some posted up amps that triple the price of the JL and some people are on budgets that make the JL amps better for that person.. But like I said what is better is defined by the user and the user only.. Not some write up that a company did, not some homeboy that blew out his front windshield with his pair of Buy 1 get 1 free subs.. The user and the user alone can distinguish what is better for themselves..
