Default Decided to do Advance Timing,,,need suggesitonsssssss

the other day i checked my spark plugs and they are 2months since the replacement of old sparkplugs...noticed they're hella black...and quite alot of backfire....so it's very obvious that my engine is running pretty dann rich...anyway ( and yes i search...but this timing issue ain't have too much post.)

current bolt on are:
CAI/H/E (custome 2.5")

so i decided yesterday to Advancing my districtor to counter richness of my engine...My question is

how much should i push toward Advance Timing...right now im about im about 1/2 of full lenght Advance timing..

any suggestions or tips will be appreciate

You should always set your timing with a timing gun. Go rent one from Autozone, it's free, all you have to do is leave a deposit.

You hook the timing light to #1 spark plug wire. When #1 fires, the inductive clamp picks up the signal and fires the timing light. You aim the light at the crank pulley where the pointer on the lower timing cover is located. If your timing light has advance capability, you dial in the amount of timing that you want, then line the white mark up with the pointer. If you are working with a base model timing light, look for the red mark and line it up with the pointer.
It frightens me that you are attempting to tune your A/F with ignition timing changes

I was thinking the same thing. Personally, jet-black plugs don't immediately scream "Advance that ignition timing, and don't bother with a timing light!", but that's just me.

Find someone nearby to help you set the timing properly. It may be somewhat retarded at the moment.
Is the engine missing as well?
How old are the ignition wires? Cap? rotor?
Sounds like a basic tune-up could help.
Clean your air filter if you need to as well.

Good luck.

Yeah I fucked up that one pretty good. I noticed right after I posted that the thread was old. Anyways I reply only to point out that you did make me laugh. You said that I was from North Carolina. The guy that posted right before you that you were telling ot give me a break is also from NC... just amused me... Oh yeah sorry for the 3 month old thread thing.
