my R is slow, or i suck at driving? :::drag strip:::
well, i was at the drag strip a couple weeks ago (second time ive been there) and i thought i pulled some pretty crappy times. im running a dc sport ceramic 4-1 header, apex'i N1 catback with stock cat, skunk2 camgears(untuned), aem pulleys, act stage 2 clutch, lightweight flywheel, comptech air filter with airbox top removed, VAFC2 vtec engagement at 5400 and disengage at 5100, and stripped interior. stock wheels with BFG comp T/As 205/50/15 at 35psi. the temperature was about 80 degrees, and there was no wind. timeslips look like this:
R/T ... .858
60' ... 2.443
333 ... 6.560
1/8 ... 9.913
MPH ... 73.31
1000 ... 12.764
1/4 ... 15.206
MPH ... 92.02
unfortunately, my R/T sucks, i think i fell asleep or something. but this was my best run of the night. i thought with these mods, i should be atleast in the high 14s. even if i do suck.

Practice Practice Practice... If you care to beat your car up
I prefer not to drag but have on several occasions, then learned about track time

Lower your tire pressure to 20psi or a little lower, do a mild burn out to get the tires heat up. Learn how to launch the car, you should be able to get 2.2 for 60 since you have LSD. Your trap speed is good for sub 14 second run. Reaction time dont mean anything, the clock wont run til staging lights is off. RT is only work on bracket racing and real competition.

with that trap speed theres no way hed be sub 14s, 92mph is way low for the car

I was thinking the same thing when I read that - the trap speed is quite low, which is normally a rough indication that the motor is down on power.
Also, what was the elevation at the track?

well my vehicle ran 14.4 at 94mph...notice i said my vehicle cause i didn't drive it....good friend of mine did...he's damn good.....but anyway......is 94 that much of a difference then 92 in a Q/M time? ..o yea i was there when he ran it so it wasn't hear say!
Those are really bad times for your setup. I just got back from my first trip to the track, completely stock and ran a 14.9 w/ a 2.4 60'. (horrible 60') Tune it, then read Active Aero's Drag FAQ's post
those are horrible, iv got a 2001 type r, with an aem cold air, i ran a 14.2@98.9 mph, with a 2.2 60ft, completly stock, nothing removed, only an intake
first off is that header the jdm version, if not get rid of that piece of ****, second get rid of the stock cat, its like a plug in a high flow exhaust, got and get the vafc and the cam gears tuned, your probaly loosing power from installing stuff and not tuning it correctly, you cant just set your vtec point whereever you want
ok now ill stop being an *** and give you some tips, one tip you v got the launch the **** out of these cars to get a good time, lower your tire pressure to like 20-25 pounds, do not drive threw the water pit thats only for guys with slicks, do a nice smokey burnout, but not to big street tires tend to get slimy when they get to hot instead of sticky, get the tires nice and warm, pull up to the line rev up to about 5-6 grand, dont dump the clutch, kinda ride it and modulate the gas at the same time, now the tires are gonna spin, keep a steady foot on the gas, do not floor it untill it stops spinning, as soon as it stops spining floor and go like a bat out of hell, take it to about 8300, try to shift as fast as possible to keep the revs up, our cars have no low end power its all up top, dont stop gettin it untill you see the sin he give out the times, rember that when you launch and it spins DO NO SHIFT INTO SECOND, iv seen countless newbies at the track launch and when it spins thy shift into second and the car just falls on its face

That trap speed is really low. I'd check the basic things (compression test, plugs) and then hit a dyno to see what kind of power it's putting down.
Oh and if that's a USDM DC header it sucks. My sig might have some useful information as well.

i realize 92 is a slow trap, the time i was at the strip beforei was running consistant 15.4s at 96mph. that was with fouled up plugs, and no vafc, and no comptech filter. i have new plugs in there, i replaced them with OEM ones. im starting to wonder though, if something is really wrong with the car though. i purchased it with a little front end damage, and the seller said that was all that was wrong with the car. but now, i keep finding more and more things that are messed up. im going to have to take it somewhere to find out if it still has ITR cams, or if its even an ITR head. the head definitely says PR3-3 on it. there is a stripe, but it looks black. aslo it looks like it was put on the head and the distributor, then filed off the distributor. not sure if that is how its supposed to be stock. ill maybe try to do a compression test tomorrow. thanks for the tips everyone.
i ran a 14.6 mostly stock
shaved it down to 14.5 later
and i dont lauch....
btw it is tru u do have to launch high if u wanna get a sick time, or just go get some slicks and dump at readline!!
i like to look at traps more than qm my traps were 97-99 mph

oh, thats another thing, i didnt say it before, but i was launching at about 2500rpm or so. i know thats kinda low, but my tires are getting down there, and i didnt want to keep spinning them.
i ran a 14.2 @97mph with i/h/e. i had no vafc no nothing just straight bolt ons. u need to first get some better tires and lower the psi to like 20-24psi. u also need to get rid of those aem cam gears cuz ur prob better off with the stock ones. u also need to tune ur vafc , and a fpr will help. launch around 5500-6000. u have a clutch so u should have no problems. with ur setup u should be doing mid to high 13's. practice and get it tuned. thats my .02
just got an alignment, everythings perfectly stock. also, i just bought a T1R testpipe about a week ago. everyone is saying get rid of the header. would i be better off getting a new header, or installing the test pipe?
