I just moved to az and if you spend so much to try to correct your cars immissions and still fails then they just pass you, not sure how cali works though.
Yeah I got a ref ticket. Never went. Forgot about it. Got certified letter in the mail saying my license would be suspended if I didn't pay for it, so I did. Never heard anything about it since.
Yes the ticket is about 150 dollars to 200 depending on city.
Its alot easier to put a stock muffler on and taking the test if it wont pass. You should try the test anyway if you fail you could go back no problem. And its a free test, so what do you have to lose?

MAn, i love MD, no restrictions on mufflers or smog ****...just an emissions test every couple years to make sure the thing isnt blowing like acid into the air, and my car dont even have to do anything, they look at the exaust, LOOK!, and say it passes
i got a ref ticket...its ok to have a modified exhaust it just cant be loud...if its loud then u prob got a problem...what city u in cuz i went to the ref center at southwestern college and the people there are tyte as hell..i had a cam gear and advanced my timing the guy said he could fail me rite there but he adjusted my timing back... passed no problems even with my exhaust...just stock the engine back...ex: stock filter...ect.

will the "smog ref" ticket show on your records even after paying the fine?
will you be denied of renewal of your registration because of this (because you opted to pay the fine as opposed to smog reffing the car)?
what if you get pulled over again within the time your registration expires...what happens?

Once you pay the fine, you're done. But the next time you get a ticket like that, the fine will increase.

I never understood why people make posts like this, boasting about how their state doesn't have strict emissions. How does that help the person asking questions? Enjoy your winter.

I paid an exhaust shop $125 for a new Dynamax muffler and tip and had it welded on.
The REF sound check was free.
Cheaper than the bail amount.
