Help! 12 volts TO AND FROM A17 at ECU
My cars been running rough and after some troubleshooting of vacuum lines and what not, I landed at the IAB solenoid. After checking the wires to the solenoid, I discovered that the wire that connects the solenoid to the ECU is delivering 12 volts. However, the wire connects to the ecu at A17 and that is also putting out 12 volts. It seems one of the two is screwed up. I could use some help from the technically gifted.
what ECU are you using? I wouldnt even hook the IAB up if i was you. Just pull the vacuum hose to the IAB(spaceship lookin thing on the right side of the intake manifold as your lookin at it) that will disable the IAB and the secondaries will be open all the time.
Unpin the wire at A17 and measure again - it'll probably still be +12v.
Current has to flow in order for voltage to be dropped across the component....so you see, since the IAB wasn't being activated, there was no current flowing through it and thus no voltage drop across it.
Go out for a spin and keep your meter on A17 - when the IAB's activate, the voltage should drop.

....which kills low-end torque....

i have mine like that now and i really cant tell the diff. oh and depending on what ECU he is using it could be goin to the wrong pinout. i think on the GSR ECU A20

My ecu is a P72. I unpinned the wire from A17. The wire shows 12 volts as does A17 at the ecu. There shouldn't be 12 volts going TO and FROM the ecu should there?
I think I heard from my friend that when you do the wires like a usdm it is different as the ecu sends the 12v and you need to ground the other wire. now if you had a usdm ecu then your wiring is correct.
With the IAB connected to the ECU as it should be, and your car warm, use your meter to monitor the voltage on A17: Does the voltage EVER change when you accelerate past the IAB activation point?
