Master Cylinder question...
Okay I'm a newbie, I just came from this shop that checked my brake issue and said my MC is leaking. They said something about my roters.. but they gave me a overall price of $345. Are they ******* serious, I've looked through the archieve and looks like the MC installation is ******* simple.
I realize the MC is kinda expensive but they wanted like 80 bucks labor. Is it really worth the additional 80 bucks for them to install my MC?

ouch. at the pep boys up the street, it's like $30 or $50 (i don't remember which) + core exchange for a refurbished MC, or like $85 for a new one. the same for your rotors...they shouldn't be horribly expensive. what did the shop say was wrong with them? if done yourself, i don't see this job exceeding $100. pick up a shop manual (helms, chiltons, etc.) and start learning about your car. it'll save you a lot of money and is quite gratifying.
I just bought a refurb MC off ebay for 20 shipped (the 88-91 prelude one) and for 345 they quoted you I think you could do a rear disk swap with new everything and all new rotors for that price. Pads are like 15 bucks for some autozone specials and I picked up my blank rotors for 15 bucks each also. You do the math. All this stuff can be installed in a few hours
What was your brake issue? Pedal sinking to the floor? What did they say about rotors?
The MC install isn't difficult, but involves bleeding the entire brake system - which means you'll need to get some fluid and a buddy to help you. You also have to make sure to use a flare nut wrench on the lines.

You need to head to an auto parts store and get an MC for 91 4 dr EX, it is a 15/16 instead of the 13/16 that you have now, and you can change it yourself. I paid about $40 for the MC and $15 for rotors, the 15/16 will be able to give you more fluid movement which will in turn give you slighty more brake and a little more pedal and it is good if you are going to upgrade you calipers.
This will seem harsh but if you can't do these simple things you should probably not attempt anything on your car including changing your oil
also SEARCH mass threads on this, read the FAQ sticky post also MODS might get upset with the language

Your post was rather ignorant.

Thank you for your concern in this matter
Ignorant because I actually gave this dude something to pick up with some real parts rather than just saying bleed the brakes...you have been around enough on this board to help this guy out more than that.
Osek206 you can do this job yourself. Don't pay anyone crap to do it. If you don't have a second person I use a one man bleeder system and it works great. PM if you have questions

^ If your brother paid 325 bucks in to have his MC replaced that is crazy!!!! I spent 20 bucks on a new MC and 30 min. install and 30 min. to bleed all 4 corners about 3 times. Cost me about 30 bucks MC, brake fluid, and a 10mm flare nut wrench LOL. 325 if hell froze over
This handy little tool that most auto store have. It allows you to bleed the brake by yourself and it keep the air out of the line like there were 2 people doing it. I love mine.
DIY. You will learn something and it really is easy. Get a Helm's manual and read up. Or better yet, this forum and the ZC forum have the civic manuals posted. Do a quick search, read up and DIY.
I got a cylinder for about 58 bucks at Shucks. Anyway it won't be in till Mon afternoon. The guy made it seems like If I drive It might be a problem so I kinda wana stay off the freeway.
My only problem is the bleeding. I really can't afford the 50 dollar maunal system, and It's going to be pretty hard to find somebody to help me.

Hey man all you need is someone to sit in the car and pump and hold the pedal while you do all the work
.........oh yeah and also those 1 man bleeder kits they have a ghetto one at autozone for about 8 bucks its just a hose with a small plastic bottle on the end. Did you happen to order the 13/16"s? the crx one or the 15/16" one? Also do u have rear disk or drum brakes?

I took the hard way. I got integra master cylinder and brake booster. On the crx it cost $20(from junkyard) and on another car it was like $200 for both new.
I lifted my car today to find the valves today, and I think I spotted the front bleeder. It had a rubber little top and a hex nut under it. I'm not sure about the rear though, I didn't take the tire off but I couldn't find it. Anyone have a close up photo of the rear bleeder?
if you have rear drums, then the bleeder should be towards the top of the back plate. You really can't see it until you take the rear wheel off. I've had to go through this same bullshit with my car too. Still gotta deal with a mushy brake for a while.
