About to do GC/Koni install - have some questions from those that did it themselves!
Hey there guys. I'm about to try to install my own GC/Koni setup on my 2001 SH. Before I start though I have some questions regarding some of the parts that came with the shocks and springs.
First, what are these:
They came with the GC kit and I have no idea what they are for. As you can see there are 8 fat rings and 10 thinner rings.
Second, I know that you need special perches to use Koni shocks, are these the right ones?:

Third, is this how I'm supposed to assemble them?:

And fourth, these came with the Konis, are they meant to replace stock pieces or what?

I already have a Helms, and a friend said I can use his "clam type" spring compressor, is this a good kind to use? Let me know.
I also read the NTPOG article on spring installs and it said that SH suspensions requires "removal of a ball joint to remove the strut assembly". If anyone has a pic of this I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance everyone!!!

the ruber rings are for the shocks..u slip the ones that go on there then slip the sleeve over the shock so that the sleeve doesn't move...good luck
thanks for the post Alex, so from that thread I guess the silver perch in the 2nd pic is unnecessary.
So are the rubber rings supposed to go on the inside of the sleeve in between it and the shock from the top then? BUMP!

you are missing the perches. They are an insert that goes inside the coilover sleeve and rests on the ring clip on the koni shock body. You don't need the rubber rings.

Are these it?:

They were already inserted inside the bottom of the sleeve and I didnt know I could take them out.
as for the rubber rings, since the rear sleeves are longer, should I try to fit 5 rings in the back and 4 on the front to use up all of the rings? Like here on the front one?

Any more input is appreciated

yep, those are them. You have all you need. BTW what springs rates did you get?
I have Koni Reds on GC's - my kit came with NO rubber rings.
The threaded tube from GC, has a machined lip inside which allowed it to rest on the circlip on the Koni shock body. My shocks did not come with that black spacer you have either. The fit between the threaded tube and shock body was minimal - just enough to get a piece of electrical tape on the shock body to keep the tube from rattling around on it.
From my understanding, the Yellows have a thicker shock shaft than the Reds do which is why you are supplied those two thicker steel collar tubes (I could resuse the stocker for the Reds).
I only used 2 washers for my install (plus the little white plastic piece - not sure what its for, but its on there) - one washer has a taper inside it which allowed it to rest on the taper of the shock shaft. On top of this washer sits the two rubber bushings/top hat (with the steel collar inside) and then the last washer on top of this - all sandwiched together with the nut supplied with the shocks.

I have the GC/Yellow Koni setup. Those adpaters are the correct ones for the standard GC sleeves, but they should have sold you the sleeves that where specifically for the yellow Konis. If you have the Koni Yellow GC sleeves they would fit to the shock without the use of the o-rings and the sleeve is notched to fit right onto the Koni shock without the adapter.

Damn, sucks to hear that. heres a pic to show the clearance between the hsock and sleeve:

I just called them and they said that the sleeve wont move anywhere. The rings are apparently there for KYB cars, but Ill shove a bunch of them in there just in case and wrap them with s few layers of duck tape for good measure. Wanna be sure these are tighter than a nun at mardigras

Who did you buy them from? Yours will work fine....technically they are correct, but like I said there are a set that fits snug to the Koni yellows with no adapter. The universal set has the o-rings that you add to the shock to fill the gap and you can add the Koni adapter. The diameter of the Koni GC set is smaller so you dont have to use the o-rings...thats the set I have.
First kit is yours...the third kit is the Koni specific kit

Thanks for the replies all. I did tell them I had konis but they still sent me the non-koni specific set. I ordered directly from GC btw
Anyway, Im gonna do the install today so Ill have some pics up since I've never seen an SH specific write up.
