Is this the o2 sensor on the exhaust manifold or the o2 sensor after the cat? How difficult is it to wire the universal o2 sensor?

 

This is the sensor after the catalytic converter that provides information on the performance of the catalytic converter.

Wiring a universal sensor is not hard, but you have to be sure you know the input and output wires on the O2 sensor. They are not interchangeable to the ECU and will cause the CEL to illuminate if wired backwards. If the sensor comes w/ a wiring diagram, you should have no problems. I did this once and had to guess w/ the result of having to pull and rewire to get it right.

You should solder the wire splices, wrap w/ single layer of tape, and install a heat shrink sleeve to hold the tape securely in place. I also wrapped the completed splice assembly w/ aluminum tape to insure as much heat protection as possible. It helps to lengthwise stagger your splices slightly to minimize the bulge in your harness.

I have the bosh O2 sensor that I guess you call the universal one in my F22A4. I have no problems with it at all. I also still have the diagram for the wires. So if you need to know what colors go for what I can tell you.
Mine works fine. If its not reading right and the wires are correct then you need to get another O2 sensor and replace it.

 

Found out my wife's Accord is covered under the "secret" Emissions extended warranty. Sweet.
