Default BIG inspections WCHC Engines will be torn down this weekend.

Well its about time. Want to see how a 108hp CRX is as fast as a 140HP integra.

Interesting. Mandatory teardown of the top three? By whom? Fees involved? Curious to know the details.

Heh heh. 1/2 of the pre registered entries will probably no-show after seeing that announcement .

I once saw a Bart Simpson decal an a IT car with a dialogue cloud saying:

"Of course it's legal...now get the hell away from it!"

One way to decrease new racers to h-c in my opinion. Why is anybody going to want to join an amateur race series where teardowns are mandatory?

BTW who pays for the teardowns and rebuilds and the time for all this?

Ryan, it can work both ways. Yes it might discourage some but then again if it's only done once a season or less frequently some people will think this is good as it cuts down on cheating and keeps costs down.

Two ways to look at it

Everything comes out of your poket. It looks like no one is protesting so no money up front.

so if say racer A protests racer B, then B has to pay for his/her engine teardown and rebuild?

I do see the point of being fair. Is there really that big of a problem of cheating out on the WC that it has come to this.

Just interested as a future club racer.

SCCA's ARRC does it too.

Besides, most likely a newbie isn't going to be in the top 3 of a decent sized field.

If your going to protest then you need to put money on it. If you get that guy for cheeting then you get the money back. If not then the person uses that money for the motor that was just tore down.

here's the whole notice. it would have been better to have posted this when the thread started.

From: "Ryan Flaherty" <rflaherty@drivenasa.com>
Subject: Inspections

As all of you know, all competitors are subject to inspection for class
compliance. Since we are nearing the end of the year with championships at
stake, it is time to be diligent and make sure the cars are rules compliant.
Thus, I want to let everyone know that cars and engines will be inspected
before any championship is decided. I am sending you this as a courtesy so
you will be prepared in the event you are chosen. Be prepared to pull head,
intake, oil pan, cam(s), etc. You may want to make sure you have spare
gaskets on hand. You will also be required to have someone capable to do the
work so please be cooperative when it is your time. This series has become a
great arena for import racing and we will do our best to make sure that all
competitors and the public have no doubt that you are deserving of your
accomplishments.

Thanks for your support.

I don't clain to know anything about your series in WC but I can tell that here in the SouthEast, there are plenty of ITA CRXs that can keep up and beat ITA integras. Just look at the entries over the last several years from the ARRC which all happen to be found legal. Some of the names that come to mind are Tom Fowler (CRXs), Louis Boustany (CRX) and John Wilding (integra).

I don't race in HC, but I do think a annual "basic" teardown is a good way of making sure everyone is on the "up and up."

Cheating for a $2 trophy is like stealing cheese from the foodbank.

This is not the way to make HC grow. I race in ITA and I was looking towerd building a Honda for HC. Now I'm going to whate 2 more years for it, if this keeps up I will never get into HC.

I don't. Nobody will ever tear my motor down at the track. She's never been opened, and I'll take a DQ before I'll let someone crack her open.

Well, other than some guy I know down in South Carolina.

i would tend to agree with jason.....if my engine is running.....i'm pretty sure i'm not gonna let someone tear it down....

but if the series were to state that there will be an annual inspection ie teardown or whatever i would be more prone not to throw a fit....

For the record, that still wouldn't matter to me

if some one protests you and puts the money down for it, then its ok. But when they just feel like tearing the motor down for nothing, thats when I have a problem.

or at least offer the suggestion that the possibility of one exists.. this is probably something that should be addressed in finality, for all regions, in the off season methinks.. not heading into the last 1-2 events..

but what do I know.. I am just getting into this.. hehe.. ::

I'm in favour of an annual inspection, but I would agree with Jason and Chad that at this late stage of the game I would have the same reaction to pulling my engine apart for anyone, unless they were prepared to pay the fee...
I remember this topic coming up quite some time ago where I was going to demand that my engine be checked and sealed by a NASA Official... It never happened, but It looks like it would have been a good move. However, our motors have been apart so many times this season for one stupid thing or another. I doubt that there is anyone of any importance who has'nt seen inside them?
