Default tdc question... need help asap

im getting ready to do a valve adjustment and i started turning the crank (counter clock wise) and when i turn the crank the cams just go BACK where they were. any body know why this would happen? cuz on my last motor one cam kept "skipping" so it fucked up the motor (timing kept jumping) and this reminds me of the same problem.. and the other day when i looked at the marks on cam gears i noticed they wernt lined up (perfect) with eachother????? please help oh and both motors were/are dohc zc and the car is an ef (if that matters)

If you haven't loosened the belt tensioner bolt then the cams will just turn as you turn the crank pully

If you loosen the bolt and turn clockwise then the blet will skip.

Are they turning back a little or a lot, a little would be like mm, a lot would be going around back in a circle. If that's the case your engine is possessed. What engine are you doing this on ?

Unfortunately that's not always true, when I was rebuilding an engine once I followed the procedures on tightening the belt was still loose, loose enough that one cam would jump a tooth every time it rotated around once. I found out that the tensioner need a little help, I had to pull up on the tensioner as I went threw the procedures of tightening the belt.

I know what he is talking about; that is just the tension on the springs pushing back on the cam, if you don't get the correct piston at TDC that you're looking for, the cams are going to have resistence due to angle and impact of springs, etc. I experienced while doing a valve job with the head on a bench, it was a bitch and a half. As long as it isn't spinning more then a tooth back you should be fine.
