Optima Battery for Honda Civic
Im looking for an Optima battery whether it be yellow top or red and i cant find one for my 99 Civic Si. Which is the most powerful? red or yellow top? thanks guys.
red has more cold cranking amps, but if you drain it all the way like a couple times its trash...
if you need a large battery for a system, i would get a gell cell battery... couple car audio companies make them... and with a gell cell, you can relocate your battery into your trunk and not worry about it leaking or anything

Yellow tops have more voltage to them and are deep cycle where red tops are not. I have a yellow top in my 98 civic and it helps with light dimming a lot. There still is a bit. I'm currently using it as a band-aid solution to my power problem. An alternator is on the way but funds are kinda tight right now... so yah... just get a high output alternator and you should be find. As for not being able to find one for a 99 civic that is really weird. optima makes them for both acura and honda's in the half size battery.

They have one for his car, he just hasn't looked properly.
as others have said, the red has more cold cranking amps.
I've had my red for 5yrs now, still going strong and yes my system is draining.
I run over 1k watts, on amps that actually DO over 1k watts.

Like no ****, i did a search, but its limited to where im at. Many websites are blocked. yeah im running about 1,000 watts. I currently run a standard battery that seems to work fine, no dimming. I guess maybe i shouldnt worry about it, but its something i want to go ahead and change anyway. I see more people run the yellow top.
yellow = faster
nah, I have a yellow top... very great battery
try going to an Interstate Battery store if there's one in the area... they usually retail around $130, but its worth the investment, IMO.

Why are websites blocked in FL?
And even so, there are still so many distributors out there.
As for your 1k watts.
What amps are you running, what awg is your power wire?
What is your set up?

I actually have a lot of experience with batteries.
I've owned: 2 SVR batteries, 4 Optima, 1 Odyssey/Hawker.
IF you choose to go with Optima, go Yellow. Red cannot be reliably cycled.
I'm going to recommend SVR and Odyssey/Hawker/Stinger/Scosche (They sell under all these names, but are usually cheaper with odyssey/hawker label) over Optima.
I currently run an SVR, my brother runs an SVR as well. SVR carries a 1 year warranty, Odyssey = 3 year. Both companies will work great. They can be cycled to hell and back. Pound for pound, battery technology has not changed too much...you will get similar reserves.
The only reason I chose SVR over Odyssey = They had the largest battery that could fit in stock location for the lowest price. I got the svr 80-12 (55-60 lbs) for about $155 locally. I think under $170 is common, website is 177 shipped.
I have several friends pleased with their Odyssey batteries as well. They run the "1700" bigass model...of course you don't need that 60+ lb behemoth.
OK...that's all I have to say.
Edit: I think I should note that many Car Audio Professionals in the "industry" dislike optima batteries...

Currently I'm running about 2100 W (with Boston Acoustics Amps) not some cheesy MA audio or some no name company. The Yellow Top helps alot. I know up here in Canada Optima are cheaper than most other company batteries that are comparable in quality. I have never had a problem with my yellow top and neither have any of my other friends who have had yellow or red tops. Go Optima. You'll be happy.

</TD></TR></TABLE> optimas are 'gel cell's. not actual gel but have sponge material that soaks up the electrolite instead of plates that don't. either way you're good.
