The first question is how much you wanna spend and what is "nice system" in your definition?

I like JVC Aresonal and Alpine Headunits. I have both and like the JVC Aresonal the best but the Alpine is also very good. I also like the Eclipse Head Units although I have never owned one they sound very nice and seem nice. For speakers I like Alpine speakers a lot which I have and I have heard great things about Focals and MB Quartz. For the amp I personally like JL, Rockford Fosgate or Audiobahn. I like Audiobahn the best. For Subs I like many different brands. I probably like Polk MOMO the best but also think Audiobahn has some nice ones and Rockford Fosgate has some good subs also. I would go with 2 12" subs. It really all depends on how much you want to spend like he said. What do you want do you want all that a DVD player a GPS what all do you want?

5 G's.... I call BS

But if you are some 18 y/o baller:
Does 5k include labor or is that stricly parts?
Also are you trying to go all out with fiberglass, plexi ,and fish tanks in the install or are you going with a clean, simple install (emphasis more on quality than flashiness)?
Do you need a trunk?
Are you going to sound deaden the car?
How many screens do you want?

The more info you can give us the better

Are you saying i watch too much Pimp my Ride I am just asking questions because 95% of the people on this board are more of the Audiobhan "flame amps are cool" crowd than the high end audiophiles. I don't think my system would ever be featured on Pimp my Ride. Rainbow & Tru don't acutally appeal to that crowd

if you really want a nice system here is a nice system and under 5k:
Speakers: Adire Audio components up front (prolly 6.5") (not sure on price, around 500$?)
Infinity Kappa 6x9s in the rear...faded towards front though (150$)
amp: powered by an arc audio 4150 (like 700$)
subs: (2) 12" RE XXX (430$ shipped for each)
Each powered by 1 Rockford Fosgate 1501BD (500$ each)

thats.... 1200$ + 860$ + 1000$ = around 3grand...and thats a killer system... Im telling you if you're looking for nice subs, look into RE, Adire Audio, Elemental Designs (have had problems though with ED), JL Audio, Eclipse.

RE XXX's are gonna hit very hard, 32mm of excursion, compared to a sub like an Alpine type-R (still a good sub) with what, 13mm? the RF amps are not the best, but then again you dont need the best for bass, our ears cant even hear below 20hz and bass tends to have a sloppier sound.

by the way if you didnt know xmax or excursion is how far a sub 'comes out' when it hits, they are rated in linear or mechanical.. most of the time linear. or one way linear.

if your want to go with one brand for the whole system, then go with alpine. if you waqnt to piece everything together, then your looking at alot of research into what you wanna buy.

i dont know...i'm 22 and have 25K invested in the system.

look into dynaudio, rainbow, focal or diamond for the components. do a full 3way setup in the front, no speakers in the back AT ALL. i'd say a single sub would be good enough but then i'm not sure jsut how much bass is enough for you. if you really want to have fun go with an active setup.

and do not go with a single manufacturer for the entire setup. you're too limited that way and wont get the best setup possible

alright i must confess....it is canadian funds so its about 19K US. as far as a job, i'm currently looking for one lol...i'll let you know.

as far as listening to me....i would only do that sometimes. i dont have much experience in car audio compared to home. theres lots of people on this board that know a lot more than i do and can better help those looking for equipment selection advice.
