Default Can HID bulbs be repaired?...

One headlight wasnt working, so i pulled it out of the socket and saw this...







anything that can be done, do they sell bulbs by themselves??

that really shouldnt affect it... i had a bulb like that, and it still worked... i think that the peice that is broken is just a guard/sheild... something else is probably wrong with it...

May be the contacts are bad or the ballast is dead? Try to put it on the other side and see...

I think that wire powers the other half of the bulb, kinda like overhead floresent lights have power feeds on both ends.

nah, im pretty sure is a shield over the wire that powers the bulb...

er just noticed that was only the covering... I took a quick glance (2nd pic) and it looked like the wire itself snapped.

the broken piece is made of porcelain, and it covers/shields the ground wire. it also keeps the voltage from jumping from the bulb to the headlight housing. typically, when's it broken, the bulb will not work anymore. it was my understanding that when the power jumps instead of completing the circuit, the ballast simply shuts off.

so... you'll need to replace the bulb...

You were on the money there...


I just bypassed that connector with a butt connector, everything works fine now. I guess that "myth" about HID's created too much heat has just been busted.
