Default turbo civic blown head gasket after 2 miles wtf

hey, i was roddin' down the street as soon as we got my 3rd engine swap done. (blown 3 motors w/ the turbo now) its a tdo5h (14b) turbo off a talon, pushing 14 lbs with Turbo Edit as engine management (chipped that bitch myself :D) and something happened. it started to run like **** so i pulled it into the garage and fucked around with it for a couple days then decided to pull the head and SURPRISE! boom! blown headgasket in 3 cylinders - how the **** did that happen after 2 miles? only blew one other headgasket like this and still dont know why that one happened either. peep out these pictures

If you have blown 3 motors already, wouldn't you have realized you are doing something morbidly wrong here?!?!

hes right. no stock honda motor is gonna be good for long at 14psi. thats just crazy. i wouldnt boost past ten or so myself unless i was gonna do some engine work. maybe im just a fan of reliability

Default set up

they all blew for different reasons - the first motor was bone stock internals at 14psi with no engine management - blew all lanyards on the pistons - the 2nd motor blew up from lack of oil (oil return line snapped off and dumped oil all over the ground) all i did is spin a bearing, but i said **** it and got a new motor and threw the forged pistons and rods i had into the new one - i have forged pistons and rods with about an 8.4:1 compression ratio running 14psi with 440cc injectors tuned with turbo edit and my *** dyno - this time it just blew the headgasket but it blew it so weird - the pics arent showing up - ill try and get some pics. its a d16a6 by the way

Hey 14 psi why, there's always some one faster so tone it down a bit and make an engine run for while with a turbo. Take baby steps so you can have fun driving your car. While you become a better driver during fast speed runs. Enough of that BS

Pull your head and resurface it, get copper gaskets, lower your compression, you can port your combustion chambers bigger, or get dished pistons, so you have more latitude for boost, cams have a lot to do with compression also etc..............

Well for starters, yes definitely run a copper or OEM head gasket. OEM is good enough, Felpro just wont hold up, as you've learned. Also get the OEM specs from Honda for touqing the head down for that motor. I'm not exactly sure what the numbers are for yours but it should be touqued down in three different stages. Try that and let me know what the results are. I really don't know why you are running 14psi but it's up to you. I wouldn't run anything more than 8psi on the streets, when you go to race set it at 10psi. 14psi is a little much for the motor you're running. Hope that helps..... Let me know what happens.

the reason i run insane amounts of boost is because i enjoy smoking cobras, WS6s, i pull slowly on my friends supercharged 5.0... i like beating V8s - thats why i push 14lbs :D - plus, there's nothing like being pushed farther and farther and FARTHER back in your seat as the engine revs past 8 and pushes you back in your seat at .91Gs and running 12.5s. **** i need pictures. ill try a copper head gasket and see how that turns out. once i figure out how to get pictures to show up on this, ill post my custom turbo setup (i made all the **** right down to the 3" exhaust with my friends welder and some parts off random cars) its so sleeper - ill post some pics of ****

Whats so big about beating a V8 I want to beat every body. but there is no substitute for size of a motor so if you want to beat V8 then get rid of the 1600s and get the biggest Honda motor made and turbo that and you might keep up with V8,V10,V12,V16 be realistic dood.

well, I completely understand where you are coming from about the whole whooping the pants off of big V8's. Try building the internals a little more so the car will do it no problem without you having to run silly amounts of boost out of your motor. You didn't state if the motor was sleeved or not, so if it's not, then start with that. QUIT spending money on new motors and use the money to build on the one you have. "Work smarter... not harder". That's the key.

dude you can't beat anyone when your motor will only get you going for 2 miles. speed and power aren't the only thing that counts, reliability=
