If I had an R, I'd keep it. You can easily connect it to an amp and then new speakers using a high level input or a quality line level adaptor. OEM decks really aren't that bad. R owners have enough problems with their cars getting wrecked and stolen than shouldn't be worrying about their stereo being ripped off.

No. The factory deck is really bad. I don't know why anyone would want one. It looks ugly, has poor radio reception, and extends the antenna even if you listen to CD's. I have an Alpine CDA 7941. Amber lights with a blackout option for the screen, and four volt pre-outs to boot.

Me too...I'm selling mine for $150 + shipping. Comes with pass code, although I've never tried entering the pass code cause once I took the stock cd out, I never put it back in

Not if you use a GOOD line level adaptor like a soundgate OEM4A, decent RCAs, a nice amp and find someone who can install it and tune it properly. A shitty install means a shitty stereo. The head unit would be the weak link AFTER the speakers and amp. I'm glad you like your deck.

sani dawg.. i'm not selling mine.. and yes the stock unit is not that bad at all when used with some better speakers and a quality amp.. none of that cheap ****.. it will sounds very decent.. and like someone said above, we all have enough worries about getting the whole car jacked, plus i'm not into sounds at all i personally think its a waist of money, i look at it as cash i could spent elsewhere on the car..

I couldn't agree with you more.

If I had to upgrade my stereo in stages I would do it in this order:

1: Amp
2: Sub
3: Speakers
4: Deck

A buddy of mine wants to upgrade the stereo in his R, but doesn't want to spend that much or weigh the car down. He has a half decent set of Kenwood 6.5" and tweeter component set he never used kicking around. (~$200.00) They're alright and are better than the stock speakers in the front doors. We're going to be using a dynamat extreme wedge pack for each door (~$35 ea.) because the doors are really tinny and will discolor the sound when it resonates. It's so hard to get decent midbass in a car. The subwoofer is going to be a prefabricated JL Audio CS110RW0 box ($170), laid on it's back firing up towards the rear window. It should slide right under the rear strut tower brace. We're going to dye the carpet black to match the interior. The amp will be a single Alpine V12 MRVF307 amp which is a 4 channel amp rated at 30x4 RMS ($350). The two front channels will be powering the front speakers and the rear channels will be bridged to power the subwoofer. We're going to go from the front speaker outputs of the deck to a line level adaptor which will be stashed in the center console. From there, a Y cord will be used to split the signal to go from the front channels and the rear channels of the amp. Right after the split, we're going to mount a inline remote gain in the signal path of the subwoofer RCA and mount the **** in one of the blank switchplates on the armrest console to turn the subwoofer level up and down. The rear speakers will remain stock and faded out, since they will only be used for rear ambient fill. The amp should be able to fit below the seat and we're going the strip the interior to properly run the wires. It should be a sweet sounding little system in the end, using the OEM deck and not spending too much money..and pretty much hidden, except for the enclosure, which can be very easily removed. That plastic board under the rear carpet will be replaced with a piece of 3/4" MDF so that the subwoofer will have a more solid foundation to sit on. Since he's not going to be moving a ton of air in there, we're probably not going to Dynamat the trunk.

A cool thing about the antenna being up when all the time is that yoou can use the power antenna trigger as a remote turn on lead for the amp.. otherwise you'll need to hook a switch up to turn the amp on and off or tap into the ignition, which will suck if the amp is on and you turn off the deck. I wonder what year the antennas started staying up all the time when the radio is on....

I'm planning on hanging on to mine. However, the stock deck ******* sucks. The sound quality is terrible. I would never recommend hooking it up to amps or better speakers. You'd be wasting your money. My stock deck lasted in the car all of three weeks. I get twice as good of sound out of my Sony MD deck that's in there now.

I'll sell you mine for $50 plus shipping, probably less than $10. I just want to get rid of the thing.

Email me if you're interested.
