Default Air/fuel guage ok?

Just wanting to know if my engine will be o.k. I have a jrsc recently installed and have not had time to go get it tuned. Anyway, I'm using a autometer air/fuel gauge and it is reading just barely into the rich under boost. I pulled my plugs and they are a little more white than i would like...but my exaust smells rich at the pipe. Just wondering if i can trust the a/f guage untill i can get to the tuners? {this might should have gone under another post, but have had little lucK getting any answers}--sorry

unless it's a wide-band o2 sensor you're only going to get an approximation. I wouldn't use it as an actual fail-safe device. Your average single wire o2 sensor isn't going to give you an accurate reading.

Yea...thats what i thought. I know they aren't really helpful but my car only has 13 k miles and I just want to be sure i don't kill anything b/f i can get it tuned. Just worries me about the meter reading rich and exaust smelling rich but plugs being quite white. I really can't listen for detonation b/c of my exaust
