Hi, a torch mounted remote is the only way to go when ur welding out of position. I recently just built a cage for 89 honda crx that I made in to a circle track car. I cut the top and welded it out of the car after I cut, bent, fitted, and tacked it together in the car. The trick to tig a cage is your joints have to have little to no gap. Welding a cage in the car is a pain I had to add a couple of thing to mine after I had already mounted. Have fun with it and any ?'s just ask I'll try to answer them as best as possible. O yea I would use a torch mount remote if its possible.
You will have to use a torch mounted remote cause it is a pain in the *** trying to work the pedal in the positions you will be in.
When i'm in a tough position, i put the welder on "lift arc" and a constant amperage so you touch the metal to start the arc and then it's on at a constant. You have to make sure you don't set the amperage too high cause it's full on when you do it, but if you set it up right it works great. You can get in some crazy positions when you don't have to worry about the pedal!! lol
i use any part of my body to control the pedal at times... shoulder, head, knee... whatever it takes... iv even called over a friend and just told them "push the pedal"... "ok... let go of it." lol
the worst thing imo is looking at a spot u have to weld only to find out ur head doesnt fit with the helmet on very well...
and like bakyard said... try to have little to no gap... it makes life SO much easier

Yes It's a pain in the ***. You'll have to use the pedal with all parts of your body.
i found putting the pedal in between my legs and squeeze works very well.
also you'll need to play around with different cups and torch ends so you can mover around freely.
Having a welding with pulse also works very well too.
