Suspension Questions
okay so I'm looking to buy a suspension for my R and I was thinking about going with Koni yellows and a comptech spring. I was wondering if anyone has this setup and also do I need a camber kit. The springs drop the car 1/2" in the front and 3/4" in the back. any imput would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

koni's and gc's are great.
don't know what the big deal is about omnipower... unless they came out with a version that features adjustable rebound and/or compression.

If you want to be competitive in autox, think about your class. You can upgrade shocks and stay in stock class, but you have to keep your stock springs. Koni yellows are very popular and effective for stock class ITRs.
But if you already have a bunch of mods that would keep you out of stock, look at coilovers...

I don't really want to lower my car at all but I know that if I upgrade the springs I will lower the ride height. I'm staying away from Omnipower because they aren't adjustable. the Koni's are so that one of the main things I"m looking for. I also want functionality hence I don't want a low ride height. Thanks!

I've had them on my car for a little about two weeks now. Ride quality/stiffness/dampening is sweet.

I like my back, I don't want to hurt it... :-)
AS far as the Onmipower, I"m still not sure, I like the adjustibility of the KOni's or other Coilovers.

Search the archives in this forum. Look at the FAQ sticky. This topic has been covered more than a few times and in extreme depth. I'd suggest reading and learning why you'd look at any specific suspension instead of just relying on what others may spoon out.
My opinion would be to Not change the stock suspension till you could outdrive the car in stock form.
Just remember, you asked.

Not being able to adjust shock damping isnt a bad thing, if they're properly valved in the first place... but I like Konis, I've got a set on my car now with the stock springs and have used them on others, they're a great shock. You could always just leave the stock springs on.

OMNIPOWER is coming out with the adjustable shocks next year which will be interchangable ... plus do you even know what your doing when adjusting shocks and how the car will react to the new setting... if your not an experienced person like that then dont buy the koni's just cause you can ADJUST them, lots of people will adjust them thinking they know what there doing and it actually does nothing as far as improving the cars ability... if you know what your doign then go for it.
The omnipower system is also designed to work together .. IE. the spring and shock, so the performance is as good or better than most gc/koni setup's
koni/ gc is not designed to work together ... however they do work good together
basically is personal choice... as long as you get a decent coilover that will do what you need it to do .. then your fine... remember there will always be a
BETTER SET-UP out there. just do you.

Well, if you actually track your car, and are at the point where your driving is consistant, you can make adjustments and see if it helped or hurt. Having non-adjustable shocks is like leaving your tires at 32psi all around and thinking that's perfectly ok.

Actually you are wrong Skyec. The coilovers from Omnipower are perfectly balanced. Meaning no need to fiddle around with them. Dampening adjustability for these cheaper coilovers won't do any good. Adjustability only helps when you know a lot about suspension tuning. If you don't you more than likely are making your car handle worse.
Dampening adjustability is just a sale point for companies. It's like saying our product has more features. Whether or not those features help or not is usually not looked at.
And besides that, if you are really tracking the car, then you should be doing cornerweighting, in which case you would be able to make the car completly balanced. But most people do not. They just think that screwing around with some ***** is suspension tuning. I don't even know why i bother anymore.

Or if you're an experienced driver in competitive racing, track events or autocross that cares to fine tune their cars handling for different track conditions IE rain, cold, heat, etc.

Which should be done regardless of if your tracking or competing in the car. Truth be known, you can even corner weight and adjust a completely stock R's suspension with shims. But it's not neccessary.

holy crap, you really have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
anyone that thinks any suspension is "perfect" out of the box....
and corner balancing does just that... balances the corner weights... what does that have to do with tuning shocks for how you want the car to handle? balanced or not, there is a huge difference in shock settings.
i know. my car is corner balanced and ive tuned my shocks at autox's before... anyway....
im done with this thread.
