Default kenji p28 with vafc vs. stock p73 with vafc

is it worth getting a kenji p28 if i already got a vafc. doesnt the vafc already program my stock ecu. would i get even a couple horses out of a kenji? should i just stick with my stock ecu and get it dynoed with a vafc. i also got i/h/e.

if you are getting it tuned it would make your tuning alot easier b/c it would give you a better based map to start off
if you like the VAFC for the kool blue lights or plan on tunning it later go ahead and get it b/c it will be fun for the time
not to mention this is an OBD1 Ecu which will be good for power but bad for emissions (wont pass inspection)
if you want to pass emission, start from scratch to tune and waite for power increase until you tune then just stay with your VAFC and p73

I ran the Kenji for about a year using I/H/E and testpipe. Definite notice in power and torque... much improved midrange and better high rpm punch. Ran a bit rich but with further tuning its a great alternative to other light tuning means.

Can't send Kenji IM's so I'll have to (re)ask here...

With this P28, one needs to run an OBD1 as well, correct? With this setup it is more than likely NOT possibble to pass emissions?

I'd like to stay emissions friendly, so I'm looking for as much info as possible. I've been on this board for 3 1/2 years, searched and read, but I still don't really have a full grasp of this topic.

The P28 is OBD1 so in order to use your stock harness/plugs you will need to get an OBD2>OBD1 conversion harness and then when emissions time comes round whip out the P28, stick back in your stock ECU and get your cert and then swap them back over again

I have a Kenji-P28, OBD1>OBD2 harness, and VAFC all hooked up to each other and ready to go for sale if anybody's interested. It gave me great gains and I have the dyno graphs to prove it.
