Whats the best way to clean headers without taking them off? Should I clean them and paint them?...or should I heat wrap them?...can I buy heat wrap at napa or autozone?...pleasehelp. thanks

VHT paint is availiable just about everywhere. It lasts awhile. The 1500 degree variety won't bubble up and peel off but it eventually just gets chalky and then you have to mask and repaint the dayum thing. Not that bad on my Civic but I had to take off the radiator on my bike to get to it.

I don't know about the wrap. The O'Reilly Auto Parts store I used to work at didn't stock it but it could be ordered. Might be cheaper from Jegs.

Best would be to take them off and sandblast them. If they are dirty or rusty then any paint or coating won't adhere properly. You could probably get it pretty good with some engine cleaner and wire brushes, with a little wire brush to get in the tight places, then some brake cleaner to take off any residue. Probably quicker to take them off and get them sandblasted.

For coating, I've had good luck with this stuff:

It's rated to 2000 degrees and it doesn't take much, just a very thin coat. I applied it to my turbo manifold with an air brush.
