used to be when i hit vtec i could feel it but now when i reach 4500-5500rpm range there's nothing. changed oil two weeks ago after finding it almost dry. could the lack of oil messed up the vtec or is it just the seloniod just not kicking in. thnx

 

There's your problem. There MUST be sufficient amount of oil in the crankcase for sufficient amount of oil pressure to activate the VTEC solenoid to engage VTEC. BTW, if you are running a D16Z6, don't expect much feel of VTEC for that matter.

 

If there is insufficient oil pressure you will usually get a CEL for the VTEC oil pressure sensor. Maybe you can't hear it because VTEC only engages on the intake side

 

ur vtec solenoid filter might be clog as well.

 

when u run a d16z6 or y8 hard they tend ot burn a little oil and if gone unchecked u will lose ur oil and oil pressure and ur vtec will not engage, so more than likely its ur oil pressure. so if u beat ur car, check ur oil often (speaking from experience)

 

Ya alright thanks guys i know its kicking in i had my friend stand and watch he said it threw out a cloud of black smoke so it must be kicking in but it just bogs down in the vtec range but i know there's enough oil so any thing else that it could be other than oil im gonna have it checked out this weekend thnx
