year of the block?
how can i tell what year the short block is? i am buying a shorty from a engine dist. place and i don't think they have any clue as to what year the block is from. oh BTW its a b16a. i know that if its stamped B16A with no number after then its jdm. but is there a way to tell if it is the 10.2 or 10.4 cr just by looking at it.

By the engine number.
1xxxxxx is the 1st gen
5xxxxxx is the 2nd gen
1xxxxxx is the 1st gen
5xxxxxx is the 2nd gen
thanx
1 and 5 does not designate 1st or second gen. as i have both a 1xx 2nd gen and a 5xx 2nd gen in my garage at the moment, the only way to tell if its going to be a 91.5 and up block or not is by the pistons and if you look on http://tiiite.b16a.com
somewher eunder specnicly speaking you should see pics of the different pistons in the blocks and which one your specificly looking for.

The date will be stamped on the head just above the header, in a little circle with an X through it... If you don't have the head you could trace the date by using the serial #'s, at least I think you can
