can we trust this?
I have had one for over a year now, and the answer to your question depends on what you want to get from it.
It is a data acquisition unit, nothing more. It has some software that does calculations based on the data. The accelerometers are accurate and the math is no mystery.
Yes it's good for tuning because above all else is it consistent (all exterior variables being equal like temperature and the stretch of road you choose). I do not use the dyno features at all. You can do a run, look at longitudal acceleration forces plotted on a graph before and after whatever changes you make which makes it a lot more useful than just a quarfter mile time you would get at the dragstrip (or the butt dyno). Being able to visually compare launch techniques and G forces is certainly more detailed than just looking at your 60ft time.
They just released the roadrace/autox firmware and software upgrade which finally allows data examination of curvy bits, not just straight line stuff. It allows me to not only examine my cars performance but more importantly my driving technique as well which is where it's true usefullness comes in.

well, i was realy interested in the dyno features
so you dont trust the dyno feat?

i know someone with one and its pretty damn accurate. dyno numbers were very close to the numbers given by this unit

mine is somewhat accurate for 0-60 and such but the dyno feature didn't work at all. I tried it in a V6 camry(194hp at the fly) and it came up like 106hp on the Gtech... after drivetrain loss that's still far off

Aerodynamic losses are a pretty big factor that the Gtech has to deal with that dynos don't.
It's not a matter of how close it is to a dyno, that is missing the point. The point is how accurate it is if used in the same car again and again. If it says your car puts out 100hp and it really puts out 150 on a dyno, as long as it always measures and calculates 100hp it is perfect for tuning. It will tell you the difference between before and after and that's is how you need to use it.
Do not use it if you want to tell your freiends how much HP you have. Use it if you want to measure differences before and after, regardless of the absolute accuracy compared to a dyno. Also, it can measure certain things that a dyno cannot, like the effects of weight reduction.
Yes it's useful, yet it's accurate. The question is whether it is worth the $299. YMMV.
