no its not "ok"...thats why subs have peak power...highest they can withstand w/o "popping" the outer cone

It will be just fine. You are not pushing all the power all the time. Think of your volume as a gas pedal. With 2x power you'll never need to go ALL OUT.

BTW what are the specs on the Xplod amp? is it 2x150 into 2 ohms and 300x1 into 4 ohms mono?

Yes I've been to the big dance called IASCA.

Speakers are not resistive loads and the ohms of your speaker will vary depending on the frequency and the position of the cone. If you have a 300 watt amp, you speaker is not always seeing 300 watts.

Power ratings are useless. Ignore them. It's better to send more power to your speaker than not enough. There's actually 2 ways they rate power handling on speakers. The thermal limit, how much heat the voicecoil can take and mechanical limit which is when the voicecoil former hit's the backplate which is surrounded by the magnet.... this is when your speakers bottom out.

Unless you're running Road Gear or Sparco equipment, don't ignore the power ratings. Don't go out and buy a 200 Watt Max Sub with the intention of running a 300Watt amp to it. But, if you have the equipment already, you can do it pretty easily. Respect it, go easy with the gains (as always), and it should last a good while.

alot of power that has minimal distortion (300 W) is always better than lets say 100 W with 1 percent distortion

you will be fine otherwise if you are pushing 300 watts
