Clutch Chatters?
Hi,
I guess I am getting clutch chatters because my car shudders when starting from a dead stop. It's an integra 1996 with about 110K on it. What do you guys recommend? Is there any good service center I can take my car to in the San Jose area?
Thanks,
Vishnu

i have never heard of flywheel chatter, and you dont resurface the pressure plate. there is such thing as clutch chatter. are you on original clutch still? could be that your clutch is starting to go. do you notice your clutch slipping at all when driving? If you plan on replacing the clutch make sure you get the flywheel resurfaced.
to be honest, im not really sure what is reasonable when it comes to clutch change
priceing, because i have always done it myself. You may want to look at it, its
really not that hard. Its a lot easier if you have a lift but not that many people can
get access to one, but i was stuck with jackstands. All you gotta do is remove the
axles, starter, down pipe of the header, shiftlinkage, tranny mount, and rearmount
(i think i cant remember). Unblot the bolts that connect it to the block. Then you
put support the motor with wood blocks on a jack and let the motor fall a little bit.
It will fall to the left side of the car (if you are facing the windshield). (Now here
comes the bitch part) try your hardests to pull the tranny off the motor. Once off
all you do is unbolt the pressure plate and take off the clutch disk. Then you
unbolt the flywheel and go get that bitch resurfaced. Also you will have to replace
the throw out bearing and clean the fork and regrease the meeting points. You will
need Red loctite (to put the flywheel bolts and the pressure plate bolts back in)
and high temp engine grease (for the input shaft, and fork). Then reverse the
steps listed above. Once everything is bolted back bleed the damn system till you
get all the air out of the clutch lines.if you dont have a couple of friends to help
you you will be hurting. Try to get two other friends and some beer too. Beer
makes everything fun

flywheel chatter happens a lot when you get a lightened flywheel.. especially on supras.. but yea.. $150-$250 is a good deal to get your clutch changed.. flywheel resurface is usually about $50-75 at a machine shop
