"seems" to be from the passenger side of the engine bay, however this sound is rather loud and very high pitch making source difficult to pin point.

when they removed the trans I assume they inspected the clutch/pressure plate and throwout bearing? I had a 2000 SI a couple weeks ago, came in for a noise similar to what your describing but it went away when you pushed the clutch in, turns out he had a bad throwout bearing. Another noise maker is the countershaft inside the trans, it will make noise @ idle and during acceleration, id ask them if they took the case apart to inspect internals.

I am glad I found this thread! I am going through something similar but mine is a metal-on-metal vibration coming from the passenger side of the car (right front). It started on Thursday afternoon and has progressively gotten worse. I took it to two places-the Honda dealership I frequent and another local mechanic. Both told me it that it sounded like a bad release bearing. So I purchase a new clutch overnight (and a ACT ProLite flywheel ) and have it installed. I pick it up yesterday and the noise is STILL THERE! On top of that, it is even worse-now it does it at idle, especially with the A/C on, and when I press the accelerator. I looked underneath the car today and the cat is vibrating like something fierce. I asked the shop that replaced the clutch before they installed it if they found anything loose or damaged during the removal of the transmission and they said no. While I did need to replace the clutch (I was starting to get some bad slippage), I didn't really need to drop $940 right now on this. Any suggestions as to what it could be before I wind up tearing the whole car apart just to find that a bolt is loose or a heat sheild is rattling?
