JVC Arsenal KD-AR7000
Well i anted up and bought a "top of the line" JVC...
now i know how alot of the audiophiles feel about jvc, and hey, you're entitled to your opinon based on facts....i have owned 2 jvc head units, both of which have been awesome quality mp3 players
here's my new toy, i got it for $320 shipped BRAND NEW off ebay, and i can't wait to install (it will be plug n' play because my current arsenal deck has the same rear harness
)
anyways, i'd like to get some input on this particular unit (if you've used it)
not only is it cool to look at, but it has many features that set it apart from the other jvc head units...

EXAD: The JVC Arsenal KD-AR7000 belongs to a selection of JVC receivers called EXAD (EXcellence through ADvanced technology). This receiver has special features, such as a motorized faceplate with custom graphics and a new digital tuner, to set it apart from other receivers.
Motorized Faceplate: The KD-AR7000 features a fully motorized faceplate with multiple-angle display capabilities. The faceplate automatically slides out when inserting or ejecting a CD. In addition, you can set the angle of the faceplate to one of four positions for best visibility.
OEL Display: The KD-AR7000 has a 256-color, photograph-quality OEL display.
Personalized Image Capture Technology (PICT): Using the supplied Image Converter (Color) software, you can produce custom images to display on the receiver's screen. Not only can you display still images, but you can modify images so that they in effect become a mini-animated movie. Customizing the images is simple and straight forward. First, you need to capture images by downloading them from the Internet or recording them with digital equipment, like a camcorder or camera. Next, using the Image Converter (Color) software, you can edit the images and convert them to PICT-compatible graphic data. Image Converter (Color) generates a new file suitable for the head unit's display without changing the source image. After the editing has been completed, the images can then be burned onto a CD-R disc. Finally, the images can be transferred to the head unit from the CD-R disc. (See below for minimum computer requirements for the Image Converter (Color) Software.)
Still Images: Pictures can be created and downloaded into the receiver and used for the graphic screen. A total of 18 still images can be shown one at a time as a static image or in a slide show fashion.
Image Link: When an MP3 folder includes an image file edited by Image Converter (Color), you can show the image on the display while the tracks in the folder are played back.
Demonstration Mode: The unit goes into Display Demonstration if no operation is performed for about 20 seconds. You can select the following Demonstration Modes: Demo (displays the demonstration), Image Link, or Off.
Wallpaper: You can choose one of the following background screens: Standard 1 (grid pattern), Standard 2 (geometric shapes), or Standard 3 (sunset).
Window: The window display allows you to show the following: Window 1 (two level gauges that look like tachometers), Window 2 (two horizontal level meters), Window 3 (planet with surrounding stars), or Window 4 (cityscape with blinking lights).
Dimmer: This unit is equipped with a wire that JVC calls an illumination lead, however, it acts as a dimmer lead. The dimmer can be set to Off (normal brightness at all times), Auto (display window automatically dims when your car head lights are turned on), or On (display is always dimmed).
Note: For Auto to work, this unit's illumination wire must be connected to your vehicle's headlamp circuit.
Source Naming: You can assign names of up to 10 characters to 30 station frequencies (FM and AM), up to 32 characters for 40 discs (both in the head unit and in the CD changer), and up to 16 characters for the external component connected to the line input.
Preferred Setting Mode: By activating the Preferred Setting Mode (PSM), you can set up to 15 operational and display items, including: Demo/Link, Wallpaper, Window, Picture, Clock hour, Clock minute, Clock system (24/12 hour clock display), Scroll mode, Dimmer, Brightness, Tag display, IF filter, External input, Beep, and Amp gain.
Audio Features
MP3/WMA Playback: The KD-AR7000 can play MP3 and WMA files that have been recorded on CD-R and CD-RW discs. The disc must be recorded in one of the following formats: ISO 9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet or Romeo.
Subwoofer Output: The subwoofer output has independent level control, adjustable from 00 to 08, and a selectable low-pass crossover. You can select a cutoff frequency of Low (55 Hz), Medium (85 Hz), or High (115 Hz).
Rear Auxiliary Input: The KD-AR7000 features a set of Line Input jacks (Left and Right RCAs) on a 7" pigtail attached to the rear panel. This allows you to connect a portable CD, MP3, MiniDisc, Video Game or Computer to the receiver.
Intelligent EQ (7-Band iEQ): This model has "Hard Rock", "R&B", "Pop", "Jazz", "Dance", "Country", "Reggae", "Classic", "User 1", "User 2", "User 3", and "Flat" preset EQ curves. "User 1", "User 2", and "User 3" presets can be adjusted to your preference and stored in memory. For each User preset, you can independently adjust the following frequencies: 60Hz, 150Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.4kHz, 6kHz, and 12kHz. The level of each frequency can be adjusted from -5dB to +5dB in 1dB increments.
DSP Modes: You can choose from the following DSP modes: Theater, Hall, Club, Dome, Studio, or Voice Cancel (reduces the vocal sounds). Once a DSP mode is chosen, you can adjust the following settings to optimize performance in your vehicle:
Number of Speakers: allows you to choose if your vehicle has 2 speakers or 4 speakers
Seat Position: allows you to choose All (for all front and rear seats), Front (for both front seats), Right Front (for the front right seat), or Left Front (for the front left seat)
Car Size: if your vehicle has 4 speakers, you can choose from the following car size settings: Middle, Large, or Compact
Compression Compensative Converter: The Compression Compensative Converter eliminates jitter and ripples, achieving a drastic reduction in digital distortion. This processing can be applied to both digital and analog sources.
BBE Digital: BBE Digital adjusts the relationship between the low, mid, and high frequencies by adding a progressively longer delay time to the low and mid frequencies, so that all frequencies reach your ear at the proper time.
Source Volume Adjustment: You can adjust the input level each source to match it to the FM sound level so you will not need to adjust the volume level each time you change sources. The range of adjustment is -5 to +5. This adjustment is memorized for each source except FM.
Amplifier Gain Control: When you are using the KD-AR7000 with factory speakers (or those rated to less than 50 watts peak), the Amplifier Gain Control can limit the amount of power being sent to those speakers. When the Amp Gain Control is set to "low", the volume control ranges from 0 (minimum) to 30 (maximum). When using speakers rated higher than 50 watts peak, you can set the Amp Gain Control to "high", and the volume control will range from 0 to 50. You can also turn off the internal amplifier with this control when you are using external amplifiers for all your speakers.
DiAS Tuner: This model is equipped with JVC's new Digital Intelligent Advanced Sensing tuner, offering unprecedented analog radio performance with higher sensitivity and selectivity. You can set up to 18 FM and 6 AM stations as presets. Presets can be set manually, or automatically using Strong-station Sequential Memory (SSM). If an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive, you can manually switch the tuner to "Mono" operation. You can also switch the tuner's IF filter to Wide or Auto to increase/decrease the sensitivity.

Honestly I hear people on here say that JVC's suck and they are not audiophiles. I haven't used this particular unit but I do have JVC Aresonal and love it. I'm not sure about the non Aresonal JVC head units as I have only had an Aresonal one. All I hear about on this forum is Alpine this Alpine this and I put an Alpine HU in my truck a few months after I put the JVC in my car and honestly was dissapointed. It doesn't sound as good as my JVC and just isn't as nice. Don't get me wrong I like it alot and would reccomend it but it doesn't even come close to the JVC. People tell me on here oh get an Alpine JVC sucks but in actuallity I have both and would pick the JVC anyday of the week. I also know several audiophile that are real audiophiles like me that use JVC Aresonal HU's and I know a few people that own car audio shops and they use JVC Aresonal's also. The guy I used to talk to a fair amount said JVC Aresonal was his favorite and thats what he had and the Alpine or Eclipse was his second favorite.
yeah, i did a side by side comarparison between this one and the alpine cdx9833....same ****, different toilet....although the alpine offers the bass engine pro (25watts rms), but you have to run your own 10guage wire to the constant....
anyways, in the 2 years that i've owned jvc's, i havent had one complaint....really clear, crisp, exceptional quality in their aresenal line
