Check out what Kteller.com has for your application, they will include a resonator in your piping should you buy it from them. I'm really not plugging for them, they just get alot of business off of this website.
To answer question, get a resonator, keeps the sound down and from being so raspy. I have the same univ. muffler and learned the same lesson.

Wrong resonators don't restrict air flow they just cancel out sound waves.......they are straight through. Get your info straight newbie!!!! Look at Team-integra.net for info

SO the newbie wants to start **** with the guy who been around cars his whole life. And your using words like "Real Racer" what the hell is meant by that? SO now we have racers and real racers! Having resonators is up to the individual person with their car setup. Some do, Some don't!! I can't believe I'm wasting my time with you!

Real racers??? The pro racers usually don't have exhausts, usually a side exit header. The maker of this thread is obviously getting it for his daily driver, hence the least amount of noise is his objective.

I have 2.5 inch piping from Kteller with a 16 inch resonator, the car is loud, but it sounds nice. My car has a deep growl. If I were you I would do either 2 resonators or one resonator with a good CAT, and not a test pipe. I plan to add one more resonator in the future, but I am not in a hurry to do so.

I know I am not a fake racer because I have taken my car to the track and I have a resonator.

i run 2.5" piping from the header back with 60mm apexi muffler and it is pretty loud. i made the exact same exhaust for my friend except his has a 22" magnaflow resonator from kteller and his is quieter than mine. another one of my friends also has a apexi N1 catback system and neither of our custom exhaust are as quiet as the factory apexi one, but the factory one also has a bigger canister. i think if you want a quieter exhaust you need to look into a different muffler..such as a magnaflow or es oval style muffler...hope that helps a little more than, i am a bigger racer

i have a 4-2-1 header with 2.5" collector 2.5" high flow cat 2.5" kteller piping and a 2.5" magnaflow. honestly its pretty loud in my opinion, not that it sounds bad , but its still loud. i ordered a 2.5" in/out 14" long resonator and hopefully it will quiet it down a bit. when i get home in a few weeks i should be able to record a before and after too....

wow, so much anger on the net these days....
but i have the NA apexi n1 style muffler. Mine is the JDM "race" exhuast...(i hope this means im a real racer). It starts from the cat back, one resonator, to the muffler, No bends, just straight under the gas tank and its quite. NO CAT,just str8 pipe and the stock resonator from Apexi, very quite compared to my friends custom exhaust piping with aftermarket resonator with apexi muffler.
Some Resonators have honey cone style filters inside, and i think these restrict flow and there are also some with just mesh inside, like the inside of Your apexi muffler, these are better in my opinion but the noise is louder.

i didnt really read the post but heres wut ill say.

if you have a cat or not depends on sound. how long your resonator is depends. how long your muffler is and whats inside it depends. get two resonator and a cat it it might not be too bad with the apex n1. the muffler guy told me when stepping up in piping it makes more noise.

this is what resonator should look like...

to anyone that thinks they are restrictive or will make you loose power or your not a "real racer" for wanting a quieter exhaust at no expense of power is a freakin retard.

Since you mentioned the term "newbie" 4 times in this thread, I'm curious as to how you define the term, since the person you've been directing it towards actually joined two days before you did.

Your pic is of a "mesh style" resonator but there are also honey comb style resonators too, and these do restrick flow (my opinoin), sorry i dont have a pic. it looks like chicken fence but hey, sometimes its needed if your street car sounds like a drag car...

you know that he has been an h-t member 2 days longer than you. it's sounds like you are just a post ***** and doesn't know ****. just because you have "x" amount of post don't mean you are the ****.

i would highly recommend getting a resonator in the exhaust system. a resonator will NOT cut down on cfm flow and it makes the exhaust way quitier. striaght pipe exhaust have a nasty sound to me. really bad nasty sound. the resonator will help with that and give a cleaner exhasut note.

I bougth from kteller a 2.25in flange, magnaflow cat, 2 1ft sections of stainless steel, a 28in stainless resonator and a 45 degree bend which I had cut. Then I had it all welded as 1 piece, added some hangers and painted it barbecue flat black

It's deep and makes the *** mobile del sol sound like a real sports car even with on a 1.5 and header in it
